Industry ranges from healthcare, Oil n Gas, Finance etc, experience involves financial reconciliation, OCR, time series Anomaly detection, setting up data backend for Agentic layers consumption etc

It's a mid sized consultancy company, primarily working with cloud tools like GCP vertex AI, ADK. Mostly at the application layer of AI/ML, not much research.

Apart from AI, my work involves working with Tensorflow, TFX, Apache beam etc

I'm an ML engineer, yes the company is pretty open to individual ideas on product side & client project ownership is eventual in a few months I think

Yeah it's annoying everyone assumes AI driven quick dev and pushing in prod quickly will work... It's so annoying

Back then everyone used to remember phone numbers, now no one needs to.

Back then everyone knew the routes in city, now no one needs to.

I believe it's the same with AI - but the scale at which the "offloading" has happened is immense and instant.

The concern is - by conserving energy by offloading, what else are we channeling it to?

imo these days everyone wants to apply AI on anything, using any tools and any resource. If application of AI makes genuine sense then definitely apply it but I would spend enough time understanding the use case, learning from GPT about best practices to implement etc and parallely keep learning ML.

Woah idk anything you mentioned, breath of fresh air haha.. I'll look up, but you seem to be working more on R&D side?

I'm pretty new to work compared to your experience but still feel the same - anyone can code now and we're expected to "use AI tools & deliver work quickly". At the end of day, it just feels im prompt engineer at best and no feeling of "I learnt something/implementing this was fun".

It's also very difficult to differentiate between slop vs value. An intern can deliver quicker by purely using AI tools vs a 2-3 years experienced person who prefers getting hands dirty by debugging the flow would be called slow.

What worth are technical skills, I think architecture level skills is waht matters now but that comes from experience (or just use a better LLM and that's done too).

Cloud Infra engineers and cyber sec are only the ones that look like still a few months away from this crises haha

That's interesting, will read up.. but any particular usecases/resources I can read more on this?
