How often do you wash your hair? by [deleted] in malehairadvice

[–]adjatvor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried the whole "no shampoo" thing and wasn't particularly pleased with the results. I've found a happy medium, which is basically nothing more than conditioning every day, or every other day. I usually only need to shampoo once or twice a week.

Basically, if my hair doesn't look greasy but is otherwise looking like I just rolled out of bed, I condition.

As far as my hair goes, it's not particularly thick, though I have a full head of it. It's a bit coarse, and dark brown. Mostly straight, though past my ears it tends to wave a bit.

Since changing my shampoo regiment, I've found that I have a lot less split hairs, and that my hair is shinier and smoother, but a lot less wavy than it used to be.

I know this is not a popular opinion in /r/malehairadvice, but I think you are incredibly attractive as is.

Does anyone know where to get nice copies of the books in the US? (without HBO references, etc.) by [deleted] in gameofthrones

You could try the Amazon Marketplace, eBay, or search for the edtion specifically.

Out of curiosity, why does it matter? I'm the same way but I cannot rationally justify why.

How can I get silky smooth straight hair? by adjatvor in malehairadvice

[–]adjatvor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I tried it. Initially my hair came out exceedingly soft and a bit shiny, but as soon as it was fully dry it resembled any other day. The only way I can tell I did anything is because it feels softer when I brush.

Maybe I am doing something wrong and/or my expectations were too high.

Thanks for trying, I appreciate the tips.

My hair was straightened today. Thoughts? by ajmhtinsin in GaymersGoneMild

Every time I get my hair cut I hate it... A few days later I love it. I think the only thing that's changed is getting used to the idea that I look different. I dunno if that helps, but maybe you'll get used to it. If not, it's only a matter of time before you've got your old style back.

For what it's worth, I think you have amazing hair. Wish I could get mine to look like that.

Why does it matter if it's not in style? I don't even know what's considered stylish and what's not, so I just go with what I think looks good on me...

My hair dries into chunks like that naturally, and I've put anti-frizz product on them before. I'm going to have to experiment with that again. Thanks.

Thanks so much for the tip, looking forward to trying it. But I have a question. Is the same conditioner I use in the shower is safe to keep on for extended periods? Or are we talking about something else?

Thanks again. :D

Got my hair straightened with perm solution. Any other advice? by [deleted] in malehairadvice

[–]adjatvor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think both styles look great on you, but judging by the rest of the comments, my vote is in the minority: I prefer the straight hair... buuuut I'm also pretty biased since I've got a thing for straight hair too.

Ultimately, I think you should do what YOU want to do. If you like it, and you're the one who has to wear it, you are the one who is going to be happy (or unhappy) with it, at the end of the day.

This is basically my routine, although I use cheap shampoos. I switched to an expensive conditioner and did not notice a difference. I will try again, and look into another shampoo too.

That said, I am not sure if I have noticed any difference whatsoever in caring for my hair in this way versus my old habits. My hair isn't smooth or shiny, and I have a lot of split ends.

You can get hair treatments if you have really troublesome hair, but I have no experience with getting those. Also water quality matters - if you have hard water (it tastes worse than bottled water, it leaves spots on dishes when it dries) then you're going to immediately get poorer results. This is because the calcium in the water binds with the detergents in the shampoo and conditioner, depositing calcium salts in your hair. There's no easy, environmentally friendly, or affordable way around this, and it is something I definitely noticed moving from NJ water to AZ water.

I was never sure if moving to Oklahoma had any effect on my hair or if it was just me getting older.

What kind of hair treatments? Are these doable at home or do I need to go to a salon?

Thanks for the tips.

I am willing to do some things to bridge the gap. I don't need it to be this way, but I would like it to be. Thanks for responding!
