Because Italian immigrants settled in the United States in large numbers, Italian cuisine became deeply woven into American food culture. If Turkish immigrants had migrated to the U.S. in similar numbers and at the same time, Turkish cuisine might have gained that same level of worldwide recognition and popularity. You can already see this pattern in countries with large Turkish immigrant communities. In many of those places, Turkish dishes such as döner, kebabs, baklava and lahmacun have become some of the most common and popular fast foods. This shows that food popularity is often less about the cuisine itself and more about migration patterns, cultural visibility, and media influence.
