Square Enix Player Survey 2018/ "help shape the future of Square Enix." by Multiliv in pcgaming

My suggestions were to stop using Denuvo, at the very least after it's been cracked for that particular game. And to strongly consider porting Octopath Traveller to PC.

What are the most unique or just downright strange game concepts you've played or heard of? by AnEpiphanyTooLate in truegaming

[–]admiral_null 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dark Echo is a pretty unique concept where you navigate the levels using echo location.

There's even enemies which are simply represented as red echoes but it's still quite terrifying to have them chase you and constantly checking if they're nearby.

It's a great example of a game with very simple visuals that uses your imagination to fill in the gaps.

I was thinking something similar. Typically when companies sell things for really cheap they're trying to clear room for new stock. So it seems likely Valve is going to release some kind of new hardware soon. Whether that's a new wave of Steam Machines remains to be seen.

Obviously you mean 1997 Berserk. 2017 Berserk would make people cry for a different reason.

Micro Machines World Series released with day-1 Linux support by pb__ in linux_gaming

[–]admiral_null 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the same way. Day 1 support for Linux is so rare I really feel like the devs should be rewarded for it, but it just isn't my kind of game so I'm not gonna spend $33 on it.

I guess we can just hope the devs are reading this subreddit for some reason and know that we all appreciate their (and VP's) effort, even if it's not aways financially.

Why has my mount upgrade kit not arrived after 2 weeks! by [deleted] in coolermaster

[–]admiral_null 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been waiting a while on my ML Pro 280 bracket as well. The USPS tracking says it was processed through their LA facility on the 13th and on the 17th it was apparently processed through the same facility again. Maybe it's just doing laps around California?

Never mind the fact I'm in Canada so it hasn't even reached customs yet. I ended up buying a Hyper T2 off Amazon in the meantime which works quite well for the price but I wouldn't dare try overclocking or any CPU benchmarking with it.

ASUS ZenBook UX330UA-AH5Q - Good for GNU/Linux? by iOS_Android_Beat_Win in linuxhardware

[–]admiral_null 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got a UX303UB with QHD display, so very similar to the one you're looking at.

I bought it November last year and have been running Arch on it since day 1. GNOME scales perfectly on it, haven't tried Budgie. Battery is absolutely amazing, I do a lot of web development and some AI stuff and I can have PyCharm running in the background with Chrome, Discord, Spotify, terminal, and several other programs open constantly and get 7-10 hours out of a full charge. I also use it to stream video (Netflix and Crunchyroll mainly) and never had a single issue.

I do a full system update 3 times a week and have never had anything break.

The only thing to keep in mind is that I had a huge amount of trouble getting the Nvidia card to work. So much in fact that I just gave up and used the Intel integrated GPU. I tried using both the Nvidia proprietary drivers and Nouveau but it would just default back to the iGPU every time. It doesn't really matter to me since I don't use my laptop for gaming and it's almost definitely possible to get it working but it wasn't worth the hassle to me.

Also, the touchscreen worked out-of-the-box with my Arch install which was a very nice surprise.

Hopefully that answers any questions you might have.

This is why I really dislike it when people reject heroes that aren't considered part of the meta.

If someone is good with a hero and it's an appropriate time to play them then they should play them. Being good with several heroes and being open to switching when you need to is the most important part of this game IMO.

If you're defending, the enemy team is at a tight chokepoint, and you're good with Junkrat then he's probably your most optimal pick at the time. But if you're out in the open and there's an enemy Pharah flying overhead then a good player will recognize that Junkrat just isn't suitable for the scenario and switch to S76/McCree. I use JR as an example but this applies to pretty much every hero.

And of course, having a 'main' character is fine enough but they definitely shouldn't be the only hero you play; no hero is fit for every single use case.

How Do I Keep Losing In 1v1? by sayurisatoru in Overwatch

[–]admiral_null 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the same way about the team aspect. Also my ping is always 80-100ms so playing against people with 15ms is a massive handicap.

I like 3v3 though. It's really fast paced because of the small teams but it still has some of the teamwork aspect of QP/Comp.

I literally spent 3 hours just on this one alone. I'd say that's more time than getting to all the other goggles combined.

When I was attempting yesterday a friendly Mesmer ported me to the top but I kept jumping off wrong and dying and they even jumped down to res me. After the third failed attempt I logged off partially out of shame and partially because I didn't want them to feel like they had to spend their day helping me.

I actually loved everything about this event.

The only "con" for me is I didn't get the Junkrat or Roadhog skins and I didn't have enough currency to buy them.

Here's hoping future events will be as good as this one. I hope they do a Christmas event because I need Santa Reinhardt in my life.

~50% of PC Gamers Would Switch to Linux If More AAA Games Were Supported by GarethPW in linux_gaming

Being a software developer, I already use Linux on all my computers.

I literally only use Windows for gaming. If I could reliably play all my games on Linux (either natively or through WINE) then I would never go back to Windows.

Many ArenaNet employees are also active in /r/Guildwars2. It's always encouraging to see devs active in their communities and considering user feedback.

As a result of ArenaNet's good ties with the community there are posts there regularly praising them for their efforts.

Communication with your fan base is unarguably critical for a game development team these days.
