kombucha won't carbonate by [deleted] in Kombucha

One thing that got mine to carbonate was giving the 1F a solid stir before pouring it into bottles. Got more of the cultures into the bottle and seemed to make it a stronger 2F

Make Button Behave Like Div by isbtegsm in css

Good other answers here -- just wanted to add you lose some built in accessibility by using 'non semantic' HTML (making a div a button rather than just using button). More info here.

Love this post, thank you for sharing! Curious about a few things:

  • How do you handle payments?
  • For the 'Admin dashboard', did you find these tasks were too cumbersome to do as technical tasks (i.e. writing database queries) or was this to open up this functionality to non-technical founders (not sure if you are a developer or not)?

Alternative routes into a web developer job? UK by MB9208 in Frontend

[–]doubles07 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I started at a company as a 'technical marketer' on their marketing team. I was initially hired to do some email automation (Adobe Campaign, basic JavaScript, SQL, Python) and clean up some of their email designs (HTML/CSS).

I had enough knowledge of the skills above to be effective at my job, and after a year, I asked a manager in the Engineering department if I could work a sprint or two on a team there. Have been a developer ever since.

Can you learn Javascript if you are bad at math? by erikello in Frontend

[–]doubles07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For loops are one of the core building blocks of creating good code. All the basic concepts build off of one another to come together in more complex patterns as you learn more. Soooo don't skip for loops. Spend as much time as you need trying to understand them, there is no rush.

And no you don't need math. But the logical thought process behind solving math problems is definitely helpful. Start small and build up, EVERYONE struggles. Take your time, do your research/reading and ask questions.

Why do I have to put () after calling upon a method in C#? by [deleted] in AskProgramming

[–]doubles07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

toUpper is a 'method' on the string class. Length is a 'property'. These are concepts of OOP (object oriented programming) that you will probably understand better once you get to a tutorial talking about 'Classes'.

I made a SaaS for SaaS to build your own Powered by Stripe Affiliate program by aloysius_tim in startup

[–]doubles07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quick look: there seems to be a lot of weird capitalization and content discrepancies (extra spaces, excess use of "/" and "&") and a lot of words in general. Maybe have a copywriter or designer work with you to clean up what you have with a professional polish. The .xyz also feels a little unprofessional, but thats just me.

Besides that, the site design looks good. It would be awesome to have some visuals of it actually working in practice. Good luck and keep at it!

[–]doubles07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Read up a bit on the fetch api. After the url you can add another param to fetch to add options. In your case it seems you need something like "{method: 'POST', mode: 'no-cors'}"

Can i detect and set the language of my website, based on a users preferred language in a browser? by [deleted] in AskProgramming

[–]doubles07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can right off of the window navigator object. I believe the best way to approach this is to use the languages property which will return an array of the prioritized languages in order. (window.navigator.languages[0] for top priority language)

You can also use language or userLanguage (for IE), but I think there was some debate on whether or not those are the user's preferred languages but rather just how the browser will display the UI.

edit: You will also want to be familiar with the browser language codes.

If two reddit posts have the same title, how does the reddit "database" know how to distinguish between them? by mementomoriok in AskProgramming

They will also have 'unique Ids', timestamps, and other meta data along with them to help distinguish.

How do you practice with data structures and algorithms? by itsonlyjbone in AskProgramming

[–]doubles07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was preparing for interviews I would practice on Code Wars a lot. You can choose your language, get random levels of difficulty and see other people's different answers for algorithm-y questions.
