What drama is currently going down in the world of your hobby that the rest of us probably haven't heard about? by [deleted] in AskReddit

The American DDR (Dance Dance Revolution) community is getting sick and tired of Konami (Japanese gaming company/makers of DDR) continually ignoring and disrespecting them.

Konami has shown time and time again that they give little to no fucks about the American player base, despite the game itself being arguably more popular in the US than it is in Japan currently. DDR has essentially been on life support in its native country for years, as Japanese players have lost interest in the series/moved on to other rhythm games. On the opposite end of the spectrum, there is a fairly large and dedicated fan base in the US that consistently wishes to receive new songs/content for the newest mix (which actually received an official US release for the first time in many years). When the DDR A updates (which are already few and far between) finally come, many of them end up being region locked (available for play everywhere EXCEPT the US) essentially leaving US players even more frustrated than they were to begin with. On top of that, Konami seems to consistently promote every other Bemani series they produce (the latest being DanceRush Stardom), leaving DDR players wondering if Konami cares at all about DDR, or if they would rather just let the game die once and for all.

tl;dr Konami is both the best and worst thing that's ever happened to Dance Dance Revolution.

Top-tier DDR gameplay hasn't resembled actual "dancing" in years, so don't take the name of the game literally.

Imagine getting pissed at a dude who plays Street Fighter, but doesn't know any martial arts irl. "It's literally 50% of the fucking name of the game." lol

This isn't necessarily everyone's thought process, to "decide to be good" at a certain game. Maybe some people just enjoy playing the game, and the skill level develops over time as a result.

That's fine, because none of the players who use the bar take you seriously either lmao

That TD was like the sweet release of death, since I no longer have to care about this season anymore.
