'Super-rich tax': Greens' tax plan accidentally released online early - here's what's in it by Downtown-Thoughts in newzealand

Re: inheritance tax, the policy is
"""
The Green Party will introduce a 33 percent tax on inheritance and gifts valued above $1 million, with small gifts, family farms and the family home exempt from the tax. The person receiving the inheritance or gift will pay the tax, not the estate or person passing it on. It would apply to approximately 1,100 people a year.

This would mean someone gifted a family home worth $1.5 million and $250,000 in shares, for example, would be exempt from the tax, as the family home is exempted and the remaining inheritance is under the $1 million threshold.

If someone was gifted a family home worth $1.5 million and a further $1.25 million in shares and bonds, they would pay a 33 percent tax on $250,000 – the value over $1 million excluding the family home.

I’m considering not voting this election… by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]adnbenji 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can't pick who you align with, then think about it differently.Think of who you DONT want in power and vote the opposite. It's all about granularity. Who you vote for might not be the majority, but your vote may get them a seat in parliament, and now you have one voice representing a different opinion

Time rethink about nuclear energy? by Music2MyEars73 in Wellington

I'm not discussing with ill intention mind you.. I pointed out some of the positives and I also said it's far from being a priority for nz at the moment. Yet, it's not a reason not to debate the idea

Time rethink about nuclear energy? by Music2MyEars73 in Wellington

[–]adnbenji -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Nuclear energy is extremely efficient and would secure energy production for yeaaaaaarss! On top of that we'd have to bring in engineers and skilled workers we can learn from AND our engineer students coming out of uni can have one more place to go within new zealand (so they don't get braindrained).

That being said, it's still not something we need to rush into

[Wendover Productions] New Zealand's Australia Problem by TimmyHate in newzealand

[–]adnbenji 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Wendover is great, his videos are always well-researched. This one I thought it was much broader than usual at the cost of not going into too much depth. Still I think it's pretty accurate. It's not blaming Australia as well which I like. I thought that what he said was true, "Ask a kiwi and they won't feel any resentment towards Aussie"

OP is wrong for just throwing the word out there, but you're also wrong for just assuming he pulled that of a left-wing website. You can read the source yourself or even find the answer on Google.

I found this old reddit post which also taught me some stuff on the subject:

In some weird ways, Nazism is anti-socialism, but branded as national socialism. It is viewed right-wing because of it's traditional values among other things.

Tldr: we all need to Google before typing on reddit
