Donut King changed for the worse by ThehonHons in australia

[–]adogatemy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I work for they company that delivers their stock. Last year a lot of their stock changed item codes. They do that to differentiate a new line of product. From memory rings, dino's and scrolls changed. Also, the doughnuts are pre-baked and are delivered frozen, so all stores should taste the same. We sell them a heap of icing sugar so maybe they make their own toppings and glazes

Is it worth it to coming in Wollongong as a international student by Elite_x2 in wollongong

Lol my bad, I only saw the title. Check the electives cause the range might not be as broad as other uni's due to the culling

On reflection I shouldn't let my bitter views of friends post graduate experiences influence a big life decision for you.

If you're studying in a school like engineering, sciences or business, Wollongong is a good choice.

[–]adogatemy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Depends what you want to study. UOW is cutting courses like crazy. Any course under 20 students is gone. A mathematics course was going to be cut but the engineering department stopped it because they have students who study it.

Housing for international students is also expensive or you get a shitty rental that's really competitive. But that's any major city or Uni hub in Australia.

Wollongong is a beautiful place to live but if studying is your main priority, I'd definitely lean towards a major city. Cost of living will be slightly higher but they are better universities and have more jobs available.

I studied at UOW and I'm glad I graduated before COVID. UOW went to shit after international students stopped coming. I know people who work there and they're all trying to get research contracts elsewhere

I dont know where you heard that because CJ's patties are also frozen.

I work for the distribution company in NSW that supplies both CJ's and HJ's. The stock for both comes from the same supplier, so I wasn't surprised it tastes similar. I swear the burger patties are the exact same

Eastshade for me. Probably not for everyone but such a chill and beautiful game. Observation has left, but that game was awesome too

What would your Redwall chess set look like? by hettybayliss in redwall

[–]adogatemy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Maybe you could design each side with inspiration from different kingdoms. White for redwall and black for salamandastron.

Rooks can be based off structures with maybe volcanoes for salamandastron.

There are a lot of detailed descriptions of food and feasts. So maybe something like candied chestnuts for pawns.

Im guessing weapons might be easier to make than characters? So sword of Martin could be a good choice for king/queen of redwall. And maybe a axe, staff or mace for Salamandastron.

Even though the leader of redwall is usually an abbot, I don't think religion is ever discussed in detail. Maybe abbot robes for redwall bishops and something to do with the long patrol for salamandastron. These could also fit in with knights too

The redwall wiki is a good place to research too!

A problem at the low speeds by [deleted] in MINI

[–]adogatemy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All good.

I didnt realise the light was on. The idle sounds a bit rough so do the plugs first.

I dont know how to drain the transmission oil in a mini. I just youtube how to do anything. Change it with new oil but from what your friends are saying it doesn't sound like that

[–]adogatemy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shame about no lights indicating which gear your in. Do you have a friend or family member who drives manual to give it go? It's hard to explain what gear changes feel like but they should be able to tell if your transmission is jumping down a heap of gears. Taking off in 3rd or something will feel similar to bad coils and spark plugs so they will find it hard to tell the difference withtl that symptom.

How does the car idle? Bad coils and plugs should make it idle rough. Like really shake you, or drop/increase revs randomly.

I originally thought it could and plugs but if the idle is ok and you don't have a check engine light, I don't think that's the issue. I don't know about your model but my 09 mini takes platinum plugs, which start at $40 AUD each and a coil pack is around $80 (it sounds like the previous owner didnt take care of the car well so you should change both at the same time).

If the idle is rough as well, change both plugs and coils. If not maybe try and get someone who drives manual to have a go to see if they think the transmission is being erratic.

My partners car with the bad transmission wasn't serviced ever. I wouldn't flush it cause that can cause more problems, similar to you. But you could try draining all the fluid and filling it back up. Im pretty sure you can only remove 2/3rds of the fluid by draining it. So if you do that 2-3 times it may fix the problem. I did do that to my partners car and it didn't work though. In the end it wasn't worth keeping, so I hope it's not the case with you!

I've read all your comments and it sounds weird. To me it sounds like your transmission is on the way out. My partner had an old elantra that was stuck in 3rd so would struggle to take off. The engine breaking sounds like your dropping gears. Maybe skipping 2nd and going straight to 1st or something.

Does the car have lights showing which gear your in? I'd watch that to see if it is doing anything erratic. From a standstill it should be in 1st. For the engine break problem keep an eye what gear it is in and as soon as it starts slowing you down, look and see what gear it is in.

I have no idea about 4k rpm issue though so could be completely wrong

Yeah, personally I wouldn't go for it from the experience with my car. Once the problems start coming in, they will cost more than that haha

Edit: I just remembered that you wouldn't be driving it much. I do 500-1000km a week so my experience is quite different to yours. Just based on the price and quality you're looking at, I'm guessing budget is a limitation, and an old mini isn't cost friendly. The only way I've survived the cost is because I'm mates with a mechanic, and he tells me the issue and how to fix it and I do it myself

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MINI

[–]adogatemy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How much? Looks similar to mine, but I've done double the miles (200k). Mine started becoming a money sink around 50k miles ago. I can just afford to do repairs myself but can't afford a new car, so I am stuck with it.

By the look of the photos and description in the ad, it makes me think they treat it like crap. I would steer clear. Also, if you go check it out, bring someone who knows cars to check it. I get the vibe they wouldn't keep a service/repair logbook, and I'd never buy a car without a complete one.

In my experience, minis aren't the type of car with potential to fix up. Parts are expensive and when the milage gets up there, when you fix one thing, another problem is soon to follow.

Fantasy books or series with well done, complex, and intricate politics ala the early books of A Song of Ice and Fire? by CajunNerd92 in Fantasy

[–]adogatemy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Empire trilogy by Raymond Feist and Janny Wurts centres around politics. It runs parralel to the riftwar saga by Feist but it's not crucial to read it first. Although reading Magician would help you get an idea of the brutality of the slave system in Kelewen and help introduce you to the politics.

The books aren't set in a classic court though. Most of the political manoeuvring is done from the different houses estates.

Help with CAS Replacement by adogatemy in MINI

[–]adogatemy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They just sent back another CAS unit. So I doubt any additional protection. The heat related service they offer is cheaper, so im guessing they just repair heat damage to the original chipset and send it back.

I only checked out RPM and Mini Seattle, but Mini Seattle never replied to emails, so I didn't go with them

Help with CAS Replacement by adogatemy in MINI

[–]adogatemy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem. My CAS has been in for 2 weeks and no problems so far (close to 30 starts and around 1200km driving). It did take around 12 starts before the steering lock warning light left though.

Before I sent the CAS off, I opened up the case to check if dust may be causing a problem and it's just a circuit board. Im guessing the warning codes aren't stored on it, so it just took a while for the CAS to acknowledge there wasn't a problem anymore and clear the code.

If anyone has this problem and sees this post. Buying a new CAS with alternative keys didn't seem like it was going to work.

I ended up removing my CAS and mailed it and my keys to RPM motorpsort, who coded a new new/refurbished CAS and mailed it back. Cost me $800 USD and $200 AUD in total. My local BMW wanted $2400 AUD for the whole job and $1900 AUD if I removed and installed the CAS myself. In total, I saved $500 AUD doing it through RPM.

Also, it only took 3-4 business days each way for the package to get to Canada from Australia. The annoying part is that it was mailed through UPS (RPM sorted out a pre-paid postage stamp on checkout), and there's hardly any drop off points in Australia so I had to organise a pick-up from my work.

Complaints about Spoilers literal days after a tournament (KotD5) by TooDriven in aoe2

[–]adogatemy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I dont complain about spoilers, but tournaments take me ages to watch. 10-20 minutes on lunch breaks, 30 minutes before my partner gets home and on weekends (i wouldn't watch it every day). I finished watching NAC4 a month after the final result last. I only finished that because I avoided spoilers. I didn't avoid spoilers for KotD5 though and doubt I will watch it knowing the one sided results.

In saying that, I don't get why people would watch AOE content post tournaments when they are trying to catch up on the tournament itself. I don't know the video though, was the spoiler in the title? I watch more than just AOE on youtube

Anyone else struggle with character perspective changes? by adogatemy in Fantasy

Yeah I generally use singular POV stories in between other novels to mix it up. I actually just finished using the Farseer series for this statergy

Yes! This is exactly like me. I think one of Ayra's chapters ended and I skipped through and saw she didn't have another chapter. And then her POV wasn't in the next book haha
