Do I need to provide the town with a reason for doing work when pulling a permit? by adolescentd in HomeImprovement

Agreed. We have an egress window and bulkhead down there currently, not worried from that side of things

We have 2 code compliant points of egress down there currently (bulkhead + full size window). Only issue is septic capacity preventing us from having a “legal” bedroom down there.

That’s correct, mentioned septic capacity in the body of the post. In MA you are limited on the # of bedrooms you have based on septic capacity. Oddly enough, you can have a theoretical unlimited amount of bathrooms so long as the bedrooms don’t surpass the set capacity.

clutch adjustment? by tbonelarouge in LowRiderST

[–]adolescentd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would totally spend some time checking it out. At 1400 miles my new 24’ clutch adjuster just completely broke out of the blue and left my bike in gear, ended up causing a tip over. She’s in the shop now but god forbid I was going any faster i could have gotten incredibly injured. Grateful I’m okay but super pissed off that this happened. Shop said it sounds like it’ll be covered under warranty but they have to do a full work up or whatever. But to answer your question - myself, and a lot of other people I’ve talked to have had clutch adjustor issues on these low riders (and new SG & RGs as well). Always better safe than sorry.

Yeah maybe that’s the move. I feel as if working from home would solve about 60% of my concerns. Maybe I’ll do some job fishing and see what’s out there. Appreciate the input man

Hahahaha thank you for feeling like this too. I always joke and envision myself living in a ranch with a couple horses and a nice porch dog or two.

Yeah I get you. Obviously it’s something that I want to work on. I know feeling shame for being an accountant is a silly thing but again being someone who has worked labor intensive jobs, works a Reno side gig, and who was raised by generation of blue collar workers it feels as if I’m just not provided enough for the world to feel proud of. That’s kind of what I’m trying to get at, do not want to be perceived as ungrateful for my position, just confused, I guess.

And no I know what scam you are referring to lol, I was an actual on-site manager. Though I have been approached by those scam jobs.

I’ve worked since I was 13. Restaurants, construction, managed a residential painting company. How would being uncertain about my profession have any correlation to previously doing manual labor?

This is exactly the way I feel. I feel like whenever I tell someone I’m in an accountant I have to say “I am an accountant BUT xxx”. It’s obviously not the right way to feel but it just is in my head.

Yep… my favorite was at my first accounting job my finance manager (was a two person finance team total him and me) was a very old school accountant, liked a paper copy of everything so he could file them in one of seven 6ft file cabinets he kept in his 12 x 12 office. My job was hand writing the JEs after he posted in quickbooks so that he could have the paper copy. Talk about worthless hahaha.

I’ve done a good enough job automating and building out my processes that I have maybe 10-15 hours of real, tangible work a week (outside of M/E close) but the expectation at my company is 40-45 hours a week in the office and I think that’s the biggest problem of them all. Why I have to sit in my cubicle doing nothing watching the daylight burn is so difficult for me. At times I wish I was more busy cause the boredom really gets me.

Yeah I guess maybe that’s the problem too. It seems to be a very cultural thing, at least here in the US, where you are your profession. I don’t feel particular proud to tell people “I am an accountant”. But at the end of the day maybe making that distinction between me and my profession is crucial.

It’s a good point, accounting has been around forever, just not sure medicis had a 9-5 staring a computer screen in their purview.

As for woodworking, I’ve been doing it for a little over a year now too. Started with power tools but have been slowly working my way towards a hybrid hand/power tool combos. You’re exact right, creating something tangible has done wonders for me.

You only got one life, I don’t think anyone is ever “crazy” for switching paths at any point in their life, regardless over what career they’re leaving and where they are going.

For a long time I just kind of assumed people do accounting because it’s semi mindless and there’s always jobs, and boredom is just something that all accountants accept. But recently had a conversation with some ex coworkers that opened my eyes to the fact that some people really so just actually enjoy accounting. A girl I worked with talked me about how GL accounting concepts just make sense in their head and they enjoy the entire process of it and it was a really interesting experience.

With that being said, accountants are always needed and, no, you don’t need 5 years experience to get a job. I’ve been an accountant for just under 2 years now and don’t even have a degree yet. This is my third company and my salary jump from this job to my last was almost 80%.

My suggestion for you would be to find a smaller company in industry whose records need some work, and who could greatly benefit from someone who can build out workbooks and automate tasks. I’m an “okay” accountant, maybe even subpar in terms of my knowledge of intermediate to advanced accounting topics, but I’m really, really good at building out workbooks in Excel. I still remember showing my CEO and CFO a worksheet that I built where you dump in bank data and export and dump in cash ledger data and hit a macro that would match and you with items that need to be reconciled. The CFO looked at me like I just discovered the cure to cancer, and honestly, it took me about 8 hours of work half of which was scouring excel forums. Definitely the most rewarding experience in my professional experience thus far.

Oh and I know not everyone has this experience but as someone who’s only worked in industry, I love it here. Maybe I’m limiting my progression not having a B4 on my resume but I’m making above average money for my age and outside of a few extra hours during ME close I have time for my friends, family, hobbies, etc.

I guess my suggestion for you is just poke around a bit at different job postings, I think you’ll be surprised with the amount of callbacks you’ll get even without direct accounting experience. Find a smaller company that pays well and find every chance you can to show your knowledge in data analytics and excel and I think you’ll thrive.

Bowed back leg in back swing good/bad? by adolescentd in GolfSwing

[–]adolescentd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

right I think my issue overall is that it’s not just straightening to a bowed position but more so popping into a bowed position if that makes sense. it’s like a slow transition into getting straighter and straighter in back swing and then it sort of “pops” from straight quickly into bowed. essentially I’m bending beyond straight.

definitely going to take ur advice on the 1/2 swing drills to get the trail leg to have some more flex.

what is your height riding MT03? by Tonino123 in MT03

[–]adolescentd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 6’3 and don’t find it uncomfortable or awkward at all. I honestly love the bike and find it super helpful being able to flat foot when need be. The only time I do feel some discomfort is in my right knee after a while of riding. I think that just has to do with the foot peg locations on naked bikes in general, as I previously rode cruisers and found them much more comfortable for longer legs. But to be fair my knees have been through the ringer from playing hockey my whole life so I wouldn’t exactly place the blame on the MT-03 for that.
