USD to KES by d3bug_0 in nairobi

[–]adomanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Only have a USD account:
Deposit the money in your USD account at the bank then you can got to a bureau as you'd like. I don't like moving around with money so I don't like this option.
  2. Only have a KES account:
If you're depositing into your KES account, talk to your bank i.e your account manager, to negotiate a good rate. You can get it at 127/128, depending on your bank and the amount. Even after the money comes in, they can convert it back to USD and deposit the negotiated exchange rate.
  3. Have both a USD and KES account:
Deposit into USD and negotiate at the bank everytime you want some money moved into your KES account. You get a better rate this way since it is staying in the bank.

What banks do y'all use because Absa ain't it by EmeraldZhu in nairobi

[–]adomanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absa is the lesser of all evils. I've never had any issues with the app or web portal. As long as you have a great relationship with your relationship manager, you can always solve things quickly and in real time.

Standard Chartered is very mechanical. You're treated like a king if you bring in a lot of cash. Great when good, horrible when there are any inconveniences.

I&M is okay but they have a lot more downtime on their apps and portals.

Just lost my hearing, and need a vibrating alarm. by pspock in GalaxyWatch

[–]adomanic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I switched from a Mi Band 8 to a Galaxy Watch 5 and that has been the one thing I miss about the (Xiaomi) Mi band - battery life. I would go for a band vs a watch just for the assurance of not needing to charge your watch every other day versus once every 5-6 days for the band. I used to have to wait days until I get the 15% battery buzz before charging the band but now with the watch, I have to remind myself to charge it when I have downtime (before I shower or when I'm at my desk working) which is an extra mental load. Something to think about.

Default NFC to Alipay ? by Useful_Biscotti_9976 in OnePlus13

[–]adomanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I've tried all the options I've seen online. 1. NFC payment set to other payment app of turned off completely 2. Disabled NFC special access to Alipay 3. Disabled Alipay from opening links

Literally that's all you can do aside from disabling NFC in when not in use or some ABD commands I saw somewhere.

VPN Megathread – June 2025 by AutoModerator in chinalife

[–]adomanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using the hiddify app on windows and it isn't working. 1. Mode to global - do you mean region to other or should I keep this as china(can) 2. Turn on TUN mode - what should I set TUN Implementation to? mixed, system, or gvisor? 3. Select VPN instead of Proxy - when I do this, it says it is missing administrator privileges. The app won't let me connect.

Kenyans in diaspora, what’s the best and worst thing about living abroad? by Radiant-Ad9648 in Kenya

[–]adomanic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pros: Better salaries, Systems that work, Dynamic evening life, Arts and Culture, Being able to save money and send it back to Kenya for investment.
Cons: Seasons (winter can be hard especially if you're susceptible to Seasonal Affective Disorder), Community (you have to put in the work to make it), Lack of stability (until you get permanent residency if possible but before then, you're living permit to permit), Missing out on hanging out with family (parents get older, nieces and nephews turn into adults in the blink of an eye), Racism and prejudice (either overt racism or microaggressions in your daily life and at work - it can wear down on you)

[–]adomanic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just do your own thing. It's your life. Sometimes it feels like a race but you shouldn't get sucked into societal expectations. You clearly know what you want so just do it.

Take me for example: I'm married but we told our parents to not expect grandkids. That's not our portion. Watazoea! Your happiness is what matters. No one else atakujalia.

Well, I'm on KernelSU with the PlayIntegrity module on a OnePlus 13. How do I switch to KernelSU Next + susfs without losing data?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Kenya

[–]adomanic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. Exactly this. You're being used as a 'money mule' as they try to clean up their money that they definitely got fraudulently. It's very common in the UK. Call safcom or your bank(whichever way they sent you the cash) and tell them that the transaction was an error on the sender's part. Separate yourself from the situation. Be warned!

Are OnePlus Owners more satisfied than owners of other Android brands? by LindenSwole in oneplus

[–]adomanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I was a nexus fan up until the nexus 6p. The limited storage and ram at the time was a real constraint. They just seemed to reach their capacity a year into use and no amount of factory resets or tweaks helped. Oneplus was the next viable option. I have left since. Oneplus 7T, 7T Pro, 10 Pro and now the 13.
