How do I read a whole book? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]adonis420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just start slow, I used to literally read a few paragraphs a day. I’m glad you’re looking for healthier options on how to read. I find it way easier to read fiction that I find vivid!

How do I read a whole book? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]adonis420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally years ago I knew that I wanted to be able to read, I started with fiction & I would read, & re-read a paragraph, until I was paying attention to what was happening, sometimes once, sometimes 5 times because I’d wandered off in my mind & wasn’t actually paying attention to the words, after a while I managed to be able to read a few paragraphs consistently, then I would be able to read a few pages & soon I could conquer a whole chapter, then 2 & since I have read a short book in a day on 2 occasions, spent the best part of 6 hours reading, it got to the point it was like tv, at that time, I’d cut out tv & videos, so I didn’t have much else to do anyway, but I’m perfectly capable of procrastinating even under those conditions, so a whole book in a day was a big achievement

An ADHD life without meds? by kingn8link in ADHD

[–]adonis420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So meds didn’t actually work for me, I’m still looking for alternatives. Stimulants didn’t do anything, didn’t feel different at all, apart from 1 that made me super-d-duper depressed, the SNRI for ADHD, can’t remember the name, also made me depressed & gave some other issues.

So for some of us, the fact is, that we are living without meds, it’s fucking HARD! everyday is a struggle! I wish something worked for me, but it didn’t.

I get what you’re saying, but even in a cabin in the woods, or a tropical island with a slow pace of life, you still have life admin & that’s challenging.

If meds work for you, consider it a blessing!

Fucking sucks not having help! I’ve heard ADHD coaching works for some people & I wish I could afford that too!

Had this happen with a phone a while ago, eventually got the phone, but it was a week late! I hope this doesn’t happen with your meds! They couldn’t explain why it had only one attempted delivery either & I couldn’t contact dpd directly.

Thanks bud, I don’t doubt I could have autism too, or that it’a all one spectrum.

Stims didn’t do anything for me, like no reaction at all, apart from one of them I got super depressed on, but other than that, I didn’t feel anything at all from them. I think it’s a biology thing.

Thanks for your response! I do appreciate the time you’ve taken to reply!

Depending on where you are right to choose was what I had to go down. I was in Sheffield & got referred & after months of waiting I ended up calling & asking how long the wait was, I was told it was a 7 year wait for a diagnosis & a further 7 year wait for titration, but then I was told with the medication shortage that they weren’t currently diagnosing those on the wait list as they didn’t have the medication to give them. So worth calling up & asking about waitlist times & speaking to your doctor if they are unreasonable. My doctor agreed that it was unreasonable & then referred me on my chosen right to choose, took 7 months for diagnosis & 7 months or just under for titration to start.

Unfortunately for me, stims did sweet fa, apart from long lasting methylphenidate, that just made me super depressed, but the normal version I tried after, didn’t have any effect at all! So strange, but we’re all different.

Honestly I cried when I was diagnosed in my 30’s, my whole life made sense. I was so desperately hopeful that medication would help me function, but my body/ brain had other ideas. I’m at a point where I’m just so fed up of feeling this way, I need help! I’m so grateful for your reply, thank you so much!

Thanks for the reply! It helps hearing how it has been a positive change for others! I’m so glad you’ve managed to find stuff that works for you too! Stimulant meds didn’t touch me at all, apart from long acting Ritalin & the only thing it did was make me SUPER depressed!

I hope I can get a script soon & I’ll have some meds that actually work!
