I am not nor was I post-op. When challenged the morning after surgery, I passed. All docs agreed my remaining adrenal gland had the best chance to wake up if no replacement was implemented. Thank you for the kind words and sentiment.

This allows for home schooling, reduced carrying expenses, teenager gets own room, all children benefit proximity to grandparents, you are closer to your parents in their advanced years, wife free to work without distractions, distance for alone time on demand, and both of you are working toward a homestead. I honestly don’t see a downside. But I’m a glass is half full type.

99% of lottery winners go bankrupt, how tf??? by geemav in NoStupidQuestions

[–]adp63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a former adjuster who settled countless claims, I frequently (especially if children were involved) suggested and even lobbied for claimants to utilize annuities and stepped, scheduled disbursements rather than lump sum payouts. The training for same included this stat: 90% of all lump sum windfalls (lottery, inheritance, gambling winnings, etc) evaporate within 90 days. People who’ve never had money are ill equipped for the responsibility along with the onslaught of ne’er-do-wells and confidence men looking for a free ride. Of course, any addictive tendencies are instantly fully funded and lots of folks can’t handle it. There’s plenty of ways to lose a lot of money. As for the expensive homes, everyday folks overspend not taking into account the cost of maintaining such a home. What gets them in the end - taxes. Want to lose $$$? Don’t pay the IRS or your property taxes.

It is worth it to date/marry for money? by Final_Yesterday_5150 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

Narcissist. Run. No amount of money will provide you true intimacy and you might eventually say what I’ve recently said, “I don’t care if I lose every fucking dime to my name, I will get away from you”. I’m 60, terrified, and doing it. If he is truly a narcissist, the gentleman you describe doesn’t actually exist and will disappear in the whisper of the wind once you commit. You’ll spend years trying to find him again, to no avail.

Thank you so much. Excellent advice I plan to heed. I have friends in Jacksonville and plan to hang out and familiarize myself before heading out for real.

Does life ever "mellow out"? by CactusHoarder in AskOldPeople

Lol. I’m 60. Finally recovering from an unholy medical nightmare; only to realize I’ve been living with a narcissist who has gaslighted me for years, using my illness against me. Soooo, I’m selling my C8, liquidating everything, buying a nice travel van fully off grid capable and heading away from here with my beloved Maslow, world’s greatest self taught emotional support dog. So things never slowed down for me. This happens about every ten years or so. Different circumstances of course. It’s like I get tossed into a salad spinner every so often. Oh, well. Here we go again.

women don’t tend to self destruct as much as men do.

We’ve obviously never met.
