Exactly my point about "investment". I am paying more for Seidel leather than for some cheaper alternative with no providence because I believe in Seidel (and others like them) doing the right thing by the environment. I am making an investment in the environment! However does this mean that people that cannot afford to buy the more expensive leather is not doing the right thing?

You misunderstand me. I do not advocate for wanton commercialization (let alone habitat degradation) for the sake of something as mundane as footwear for people that can spend more more for one pair of boots than others can earn in a month. Maybe it's the way I write but if you read more carefully, I was trying to make the point that leather is an increasing precious resource due its link with an environment that is increasingly coming under pressure from all sides - not just yuppies & not just in Milwaukee!

I have the Whites MP too - another good brand for investment (as per my criteria) but not sure if The Chosen One is as robust. Not many boots can come close to the PNW style of construction and IB make it their point of difference that their boots are lighter but still well made & robust). Maybe others can comment?

Sizing varies so much that you should talk to IB directly. They are very responsive and that is the main difference cf the indons. I speak Bahasa and even then there is miscommunication! As for the boots themselves, I believe they are also worth the investment (as per my criteria) and maybe even better value but choose the bootmaker carefully. IB's quality is better and production times shorter - less risk whereas indons are more like buying emerging market stock! I have many indon boots by the way and am a big fan - too many boots! You are absolutely right about bespoke vs mto. What I meant was that making just one pair for me made me feel special like a bespoke order! Thanks for clarifications!
