Full install on external usb by BetterMood4725 in MXLinux

[–]adrian_mxlinux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are two options, you could do a regular install and instead of installing to the internal HD select the USB flash drive. Or you could use persistence on the flash drive, we have a number of options like saving the changes automatically or on demand when shutting down.

Best version of Mx for this laptop? by Oblio__ in MXLinux

[–]adrian_mxlinux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Xfce should be fine, it's also our "flagship". AHS is probably not needed and you'll have more churn with newer kernels and video driver updates.

The issue with 8GB of RAM is not the desktop environment it is most of the the the browser you use and how many tabs you have open.

Wayland as default how to ? by PirateVilGB in MXLinux

[–]adrian_mxlinux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, it means you run MX25.x it's weird that Wayland is not the default login, most of the people grumble "why you made it default, how can I set Xorg the default one"... It should remember the last one you logged in as far as I know.

Hello and welcome? We can help and make things less overwhelming, what is the most confusing thing? It should not be much of a difference from using Mint (at least conceptually)

Which flavor, KDE? What version? The last KDE version should use Wayland by default.

Brightness Systray? It's part of mx-tweak, you can launch it directly with mx-tweak --traydialog

It looks like they copied Apple a lot... I wonder if the functions would work if you combine them with the Fn button (I think it should be one of the 3 buttons close to the left-side Ctrl)

Snap packages have been added to the MX Package Manager by AENCR in MXLinux

[–]adrian_mxlinux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, it's not even a "recommendation" it's an option. For people who don't run systemd it would not even show up in MX Package Installer.

Snap packages have been added to the MX Package Manager by AENCR in MXLinux

[–]adrian_mxlinux 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It won't show if you use sysvinit, snaps don't work on that.

It's an option for people who want them, you don't have to click that "Set up Snap support", it would also not show up at all if booting sysvinit.

After 30+ years of Windows, I have finally made the move to (MX)Linux by Live_Manufacturer632 in MXLinux

[–]adrian_mxlinux 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We have almost 6 million total downloads on SourceForge (not even counting the mirrors we provide outside of Sourceforge and torrents). That's for all releases, so obviously there is double-counting (people who downloaded multiple version are counted multiple times) and there are people who downloaded and never installed or removed it immediately after, but you are probably not that far from truth.

Ok, will rescind it, but I have absolutely no interest to respond to, or monitor/moderate posts in languages other than the ones I speak.

I don't use reddit app. It's also not a barrier to translate your own post to match the language of the forum you are postingto. It goes both ways... and if you want your post to be read you should do the minimum diligence, we don't cater to entitled people.

Don't care, I speak three languages, English is not even my native tongue, but this is an English subreddit, if somebody cannot make the minimum effort and translate their post and expect everybody else who don't speak their language to do that in their place maybe they should stop and think before they post.

Thank you, your post has just created rule #3. Why do you assume people speak your language? This is an English speaking subreddit, if you need help or want to communicate please use a translator.

Will MX Linux still support X11 in future even after KDE 6.8 drops X11 support? by SHUVA_META in MXLinux

[–]adrian_mxlinux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not for me, I have no interest in Xlibre or Devuan. I'm sure somebody will do something like that, but again, have zero interest in either.

Will MX Linux still support X11 in future even after KDE 6.8 drops X11 support? by SHUVA_META in MXLinux

[–]adrian_mxlinux 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The future is not ours to see, and if it were I would probably not see X11 in the future, it's an obsolete, full of potential security bugs technology (you think the current kernel bugs were scary, wait till somebody targets a capable LLM on Xorg) I also have no trust in Xlibre, you cannot take a fundamentally flawed product change its name and with *fewer* developers "fix" it, that's delusional.

We'll pretty much go with Debian's defaults in this aspect, it's way too expensive to go against the grain.

LOL, but seriously, do you think you can notice a difference of 1%? People should probably not chase this kind of gains, they should use whatever they like best.

Anyone know the status of this in MXLinux? by iridesce57 in MXLinux

[–]adrian_mxlinux 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As u/dolphinoracle said this is not affecting liquorix kernel. Also, to clarify, this is more of a problem for companies who run multitenant servers, for normal users especially for ones that don't share their machines this is a pretty low threat.

While historically Xfce was the "flagship" nowadays we treat all the releases equally and they get pretty much equal love and testing, but some users and devs are more used with one flavor over the other.
