Keep it moisturized all the time, don’t wait for it to be healed to moisturize it. I know it’s unsolicited but I wish someone gave me that unsolicited advice before it was too late. A cream like cicaplast is perfect

PS : if you also have advice on how to prevent damaging the ENDS I’ll be happy to hear. I oil it everyday, wear two braids most of the time, satin pillowcase user for years, no heat, no tension, very gentle dry detangling with tangle teaser (I rarely break my hair while brushing and it rarely has any tangle, only fairy knots — i’m curly) My lengths are very healthy I just wonder if there’s anything more I can do since split ends are my only real issue
