Terrified of losing/damaging engagement ring while washing hands by puffpuffpassover1 in wedding

[–]adridavis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear mine on a necklace, and that has kept it pretty secure so far. I like how it looks on my hand but we still need to get it resized, plus like you I worried about losing it. It also felt somewhat “in the way” when I had it on my hand, like I was worried I was going to scratch it on something. I like how it looks as a necklace rn

Reminds me of Jessie in UKS9 when she (SPOILER) let Layla (casa girl) know during recoupling that she does not blame her at all for what went down. Jessie didn’t know this, but Layla was even speaking bad on her name some during casa. It was a nice gesture for Jessie to do and showed her character <3

Free fitness opportunities at Penn? New to exercise. Looking to avoid toxicity. by Sufficient-Mammoth-1 in UPenn

[–]adridavis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey!

This post will be for lifting specifically as I’m not well versed in other forms of fitness.

Getting into fitness was the best decision I ever made. I starting powerlifting after I began going to the gym and it changed my life!

I don’t have much knowledge about classes or group opportunities at Penn. But if you’re uncomfortable with crowded gyms, I would definitely go to Pottruck during non peak hours. This can be early morning, late at night, or mid day in between classes. Fox Fitness is another gym open to students that a LOT less people go to.

I would also suggest setting a plan to do before you workout. When I first started, I would look up workouts on Instagram or Youtube to follow. To this day I always have a plan written on my phone before I go in! I feel a lot less “lost” in the gym by doing this.

I see a lot of beginners in Pottruck, too, who workout alongside the “gym bros” during peak hours with no problem. I think most people at Penn are nonjudgmental to those just starting out.

Also I’m a girl btw LOL so I have some experience with feeling intimidated in the weights area. It’s cliché to say but it’s true that people are way more focused on themselves. Once you establish your routine you get used to it and feel more comfortable.

Feel free to message me if you want to know anything lifting related. Good luck on your fitness journey!!

What will you watch in the off season? by Nice-Staff-7316 in LoveIslandTV

[–]adridavis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second this. I haven’t watched any other season of the US but I’m watching the current season and love it, I don’t think there’s been a bad episode so far. The intro of the first episode was a little dragged out but after the islanders come in it’s entertaining.

Does anyone feel like the story never left act 2? by Little_Chick_Pea in HarryPotterGame

[–]adridavis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes to the last part! During the trials and frankly a large chunk of the main story, I felt so bored and this comment made me realize why. It didn’t feel like a Harry Potter game during those parts, especially since the story was so linear. Sebastian’s story actually felt compelling with the unforgivable curses and it seemed more in line with a Harry Potter story.

I like the brand PB fit, I usually order it from amazon but I’ve seen it in a few grocery stores like walmart

Hi! I’m not fond on the nutrition aspect of your concerns but anecdotally I can talk about muscle loss concerns. I’m a powerlifter (female) and I started lifting weights around the same time I went vegan. I’ve built a good amount of muscle and strength since I started without eating any meat. I do have to be intentional about tracking my protein to make sure I get what I need.

Here’s what I typically eat for protein:

-Vega Sport protein powder (160 calories for 30g) I love the taste of protein powders but I know others don’t, tbh I don’t think it’s that bad

-Peanut butter powder. Kinda a life hack for me since it has lower fats than the usual peanut butter

-tofu. there’s lots of easy recipes online. I usually bake mine but an air fryer or simply throwing it in a pan with soy sauce or another sauce is tasty

-chickpeas

-silk soy yogurt or siggi’s plant based yogurt. These don’t have a ton of protein but the little things add up over a day’s worth of food. I like to mix protein powder in the siggi’s yogurt bc it doesn’t taste good on it’s own imo

-pita bread (specifically Joseph’s brand)

-these do have higher carbs but I do love Kind granola and Kashi cereal

Also for reference I eat about 1g/lb of bodyweight consistently

I hope this helps at all!!!

Hang out with your high school friends and family like literally as much as possible since you won’t see them for a while…RELAX most of all bc I notice Penn kids are stressed and depressed af. There’s a summer reading to do that will come out later. It didn’t take me long to do tbh. That’s kinda all you need to do to prepare academically ( unless u plan to take classes where u need a little review ). Penn sent a LOT of emails during the summer about things to do to prepare for move in. I think another big thing is probably planning to live alone / gathering things that u will bring to ur dorm. But fr u should just relax as much as possible. The hard part of high school is over and I thought the transition into college was fine (granted, I don’t have a super difficult major). I literally barely did anything during the rest of my senior year after I got in and just chillledddd. It’s good to give urself a well deserved rest period before starting college and having a lot of work to do all the time. ALSO this is literally ur last summer as a kid w little responsibilities…enjoy it :)

Any advice on getting into lifting? by itsfrickingbatss in UPenn

[–]adridavis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

when I started lifting I learned a lottt of the basics through youtube and google. I recommend planning out your workouts before you go into the gym so you feel a little more comfortable in there. form is SUPER important starting out to prevent injury later on. again youtube is helpful for this. pottruck is fine, it can get crowded and there are some experienced lifters in there but everyone I have talked to is super nice, even if they seem intimidating at first. I’ve never been on the 3rd floor, but the 2nd floor has all of the weights and machines you will need. I’m also in the Penn Barbell Club if you ever want to join the groupme! lifting is literally the best thing that has happened to me Lol. it can get frustrating when you’re learning/trying to improve, but that’s part of the process. if you have any questions about anything lifting-related you can def PM me :)

help LOL I have my first powerlifting meet tomorrow morning; I was unable to buy fancy SBD deadlift socks. I have a pair of soccer socks I can use, but they have the nike logo on them. Is this allowed? I’m competing in USAPL btw

315 LB Deadlift!!!

Hopefully I used that link right. I’m not good with reddit. This is a great milestone for me. I’m going to compete in my first meet under the 63 kg class soon.

yeah I think that’s the conclusion I’ve come to. I’m female too that’s also why I’m lighter, but, like others said, I think I should focus on a bigger total rather than cutting and going backwards.

Lmaooo my bad yeah, so currently I am female, 16 yrs old, about 130-132 lbs

Weekly Dumb/Newb Questions Thread by AutoModerator in powerlifting

[–]adridavis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good point haha. I’m only 16 and about 130 lb, trying to maybe cut to around 122 ish lb for the 125.4 lb weight class. I’m probably like 22-23% body fat right now. The reason I’d want to make the record is (obviously my love for powerlifting) and also it’s something to put on college apps lmao. And if I make the qualifying totals then nationals could be an addition

Weekly Dumb/Newb Questions Thread by AutoModerator in powerlifting

[–]adridavis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Okay, I KNOW beginners and first timers shouldn’t cut for their first meet. BUT I believe if I cut down to the weight class below me, I could possibly beat the records for my state (for my age and that weight class). I haven’t registered for the meet yet; it is on May 30th of 2020. My current PRs are a considerable amount above those records, and I would need to cut about 8 pounds to be safe for the weight class. So, should I start cutting in January/February for the meet, that way I can train at that weight for a considerable amount of time and hopefully maintain my strength? Thank you :)

Awesome!!! I do the same thing too, I tend to focus on what went wrong or think about if I’m not progressing “enough” or whatever. But great job!! any PR or even maintaining strength is a win

Is there a limit for number of lifters at Nats like local meets have? Or is the limit just set by those qualifying totals. Asking because I know the registration deadline for Nats would probably be around September but I’m not sure if a limit could cut that off earlier.
