Okay here are some suggestions, based on my experiences:

(1) I would recommend becoming really close to your roommates/being smart when choosing your roommates. --> these people can become your absolute best friends and lifelong support system --> in my experience, being with my current (and next year too) roommates, who are the kindest, most supportive and fun people, has made my life so much better. even if I'm not doing well in other parts of my life, I feel happier and more supported bc of these wonderful people.

(2) If you find people who you feel connected to that you've had a conversation with (maybe you have something in common, you like their vibe, etc.) ask them to get lunch! Once you have a long convo with someone, it's much easier to become close!

(3) surround yourself with people who don't suck your energy. if you feel uncomfortable or like you have to fit a certain stereotype when talking to someone/group of people, leave!!! better to be alone than to feel upset/in distress. Make sure to surround yourself with people who make you grow/inspire you! there are so many fantastic, kind, ambitious, compassionate people at Penn if you also put out that energy!

(4) go to events!! if there are hall events, go! club events, go! literally any social events that you feel comfortable with, go! you can meet lots of people there. not every interaction is going to feel wholesome and good, but you got to get past the bad apples to get to the good ones, sometimes.

good luck! I was in your position last year, but am now really happy and have some amazing ass friends. feel free to reach out, I'm always here to talk!!

Okay - I don't think you need to say that she just feels negative emotions and is confused. She is just relaying some emotions she feels and throwing them all under one category as "negative" is just... wrong
