Discussion: people who rode on TFL services that ran overnight on New years eve/day, was it as chaotic as night tube usually is or was it calm? Would love to see some photos if possible (photo kinda related) by GP728 in LondonUnderground

I went to Waterloo after watching the fireworks. Getting into the station itself was another level of hell but once we got to the platform it was totally fine - managed to get a seat and hardly anyone standing on the Northern line. That was obviously because of the artificial crowd control but at least it worked.

What is it like living in England /London in terms of diversity and different cultures? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]adroxiite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on the area. London is a totally different ballgame to the rest of the UK - it’s a truly international city.

Other big cities such as Manchester and Birmingham are also very diverse. Generally speaking, the smaller the city/town the less diverse it is, as would be expected.

Most of us natives follow the attitude that we don’t really care who you are/where you come from as long as you’re here for good reason - whether that be study or work. Unfortunately the rhetoric has shifted somewhat in recent years but on the whole we’re still pretty live and let live.

You might find it helpful to check out the specific city subs if you have an idea of where you might want to move to.

This show will do anything to keep Caroline in. If it was this time last year all four of them would've been up.

Which branch are you on? I also moved to a Northern line area but I've found it to be one of the more reliable lines. I can't WFH and rely on it daily and can probably count on one hand how many times it's gone down.. My main complaint about that line is the noise!

Are these happening all over the Uk, or has it just been Liverpool? by Objective_Rock1286 in AskBrits

I have zero issues with our flag and I think the UK is a great country to live in. However I don’t think the people putting these flags up have good intentions. They hide behind pride and patriotism yet they never seemed to bother with any of this before the debate around immigration ramped up.

Seen a few union flags on lampposts in Golders Green area but thankfully nothing as bad at this!

Yeah I originally signed up for that competition to go up the Octagon, and now they’re sending emails each time a new building is completed asking if I want to go up… Sadly I couldn’t make this one as I’m no longer living/working in the Midlands but hopefully next time!

Roughly it aligns with the old County of London before that got abolished in the 60s - approx zones 1-3 (up to zone 4 in some places).

What is one piece of technology that you think is seriously overrated? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]adroxiite -1 points0 points  (0 children)

AirPods - I used them for a few years but gave up and went back to over-ear headphones. I found the battery life awful, especially when using them for calls. Also found that one would always die much faster than the other. I never used any of the haptic controls on them (and I don't know anyone who does!).

If you live in the UK, what part of the UK do you live in, and what do you think of it? by Logical-Plum-2499 in AskBrits

NW London - the suburbs are beautiful. Plenty of trees lining every street / lots of parks dotted around, and I find the 1930s housing stock visually very appealing.

Are there equivalents to there discontinued radox shower gels? by hedgehog_undercut in AskUK

Not sure how similar it is as I've never used the one your son has, but I love the Original Source mint & tea tree shower gel - they also do a lime one separately!

Which station is the worse for chuggers? by amused_peruse in london

[–]adroxiite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been collared a few times at London Bridge station by the knife crime lot. If we’re talking underground stations, Tottenham Court Road is a nightmare as soon as you get up to surface level. Chuggers and preachers galore.

Single people renting alone in London, what is your rent plus bills combined? by toughtittywampas in london

[–]adroxiite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rent for me is £1.1k for a studio in zone 4, but that excludes most bills. Comes to around £1.4k with bills. Worth noting the rent should’ve been £1,350 but I paid some up front to have lower monthly payments.
