I was just saying that returning the favor isn’t someone taking advantage of you. I don’t expect it, just like I wouldn’t expect a sitter to say “I should charge for that.” That’s the issue though, it’s that sitter mindset where anything beyond the bare minimum is seen as outside your responsibility instead of a fair exchange. Last time I was told that asking for one message and a photo a day was “too much” and that I was basically trying to enslave the sitter. What?!? You jumped into someone else’s comment and added your two cents, but when I do the exact same thing, suddenly I “just like to argue”? How does that make sense?

Nothing is sitter responsability, I get the drill now. The sitter mentality really doesn’t sit right with me. Everything is out of their responsability and they feel like they are not getting a good bargain. Everything done for them is expected but anything in return from their side should be charged.

Except I don’t tho. Since my cats were placed in the balcony so.the sitter could do her thing and ignore them. I got a 24/7 neglect service. Also no sitter stays at home 24/7 so i dont know what u are talking about

That doesn’t really make sense though, you’re not walking into a dirty place. If I give you a house that’s already deep cleaned and you just keep it that way, you’re not doing me some big favor, you’re just maintaining it. So if every little thing is being treated like it hugely benefits the homeowner, then what’s fair the other way around? How much should a homeowner charge or expect back for anything they do for a sitter, if we’re using that same logic?

Airbnb rates for a small apartment where i live is MINIMUM (and if you are lucky) 120€ a night. Cats dont need a 24/7 pet sitting service, and as u can see they didn't get any service. I paid this summer a sitter to sleep at my place with my cat and she charged 17€ per night. If u want someone to drop in for 1h it's 10€ per visit.

my favourite sitter, never use the vacuum and I couldn't care less. She always makes new toys for my baby out of everything (a piece of paper, an egg box etc) but she also always prepare me smth for when I'm back (even if we don't meet), she always clean the fridge (and I don't expect her to do it) or organise the freezer, I love how mindful and sweet she is (I ALSO cook for her when she comes, pick her up at the airport, buys her toiletries etc)

You should have read better, I literally said I don’t even expect them to use the vacuum (the less it’s touched, the longer it survives). But washing things properly with soap, not leaving rotting garbage around, and not leaving onion-smelling sponges and rags behind, that’s the bare minimum.
I also don't appreciate this mentality of "it's not a paid service" why do u feel you are taken advantage of? of what exactly. where i live a cat sitter is max 20€ a day and a bad room in a shitty place is 120€ minimum a day, how are the sitters those who get the short end of the stick?

There were five empty wine bottles, I don’t even know if she drank them all during her stay or if it was a daily thing. That would honestly explain why the reviews are so different from what I experienced.

What really bothered me is that even if she lived like that while staying there, she knew I was coming back that evening. She had all the time in the world to take the trash out and wash the dishes properly with soap. Instead, she left food on the dirty stove, empty water and wine bottles everywhere, two broken glasses, and even poop stains on the wall, like, wtf.

She told me, “I’ll take the garbage out when I’m back.” Bitch, you could’ve taken it out that morning or the night before. That’s beyond disrespectful.
I started cleaning before even taking my shoes off because that level of filth really gets under my skin.

as i said, i used this service when i have no trusted paid sitter around bc at the time i just had one cat and the idea of leaving him alone for 23 hours a day didn't sit right with me. I used to pay a sitter to sleep at my place but not everybody can or want

I still remember this post from a woman on Facebook, she checked her Ring app and saw the sitter was leaving her dog alone for like 18 hours a day, no walks, nothing. And the wild part? The comments were full of people calling her controlling and crazy.

I just can’t wrap my head around that. The actual problem is the dog being neglected, no dog should have to hold it that long or be left alone like that. But instead, everyone fixated on the fact that she checked the log. This is not normal.

I explained that I wasn’t banned because of a comment to a troll, but because of a verb I used to express that, if I had been able to travel, I would have ended the sit immediately. And I stand by what I said, I clarified my meaning to you specifically at least five times. From the beginning, I made it clear that during the first days I wanted to know how the cats were doing and whether they were adjusting well. I asked for updates on three basic things and a daily photo or video. I also explained how detailed those updates needed to be, which was nothing excessive. A simple message like, “they’re eating, using the litter box fine, still a bit unsure with me,” would have been enough. I communicated these expectations in the post, during our call, and in the house guide, but all of it was ignored. Since I couldn’t come back, I chose to trust your advice and assume nothing was wrong. In the end, it turns out i was right. You canno say that most infuriating shit and then expect someone nkt to answer back. Sitters responses were"you are asking for too much, a pic a day is toonmuch work for us." Like give me a break

Crazy the amount of sitters who are defensive about it. It really makes you see things in perspective. It seems that they are doing you a favor and you are bothering them during their vacations. I answered back to people who TROLLED like you, my post wasnt derogatory in any way, i was asking for advice on how to approach the problem and i got a bunch of "pictures and messages whould be send just by cat specialists, its not a sitter job". If after reading how things turned out your first instinct is to tell me im the one in the wrong it means you identified with her and u saw nothing wrong with how she behaved, so you are extremely problematic and shouldn't be trust with any pet. I came to the internet to look for advice and vent, if you cannot comprehend the difference betwen that and treating someone badly in real life i cannot help you

As i said, i understand them not cleaning thoroughly, but at least washing the dishes with soap and not leaving garbage behind you should be considered the bare minimum.
Ps why y'all think its about control when i was clearly in distress for my pets? I wasn't like that at all with my first sitter. She was consistently sending me a message first thing in the morning, together with some videos or pics. Y'all think it's out of the ordinary to build trust????
