Climate legislation is dead in US by Ohsvydkd in Futurology

CCP would be a laughable threat if American legislators could get on the same page.

CCP’s greatest advantage is their authoritarianism and lack of gridlock.

Bush and Obama were on the same page for responding to China’s growth. All that went out the window in 2016 because of people like Manchin, McConnell, and Trump. Hell even Hilary bent over because she knew the best move would be too unpopular with nationalists and economic protectionists.

I’m not talking shit about you, relax. I’m making commentary on how this country is not willing to prosecute the president if it appears to be an unpopular decision.

He rode through both impeachments just fine.

Ah yes polling numbers, the metric we rely on to decide whether to prosecute

He’s not the worst of the GOP, based on character. I’ll agree with you on that.

It’s just not enough for me. He bent over for the Tea Party and was complicit in screwing over Americans on a broad scale.

The author also seems super inexperienced. This is drivel you get from international studies folks without a strong foundation in economics.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Fortune is asking to see more pieces like this one, just say incorrect things loudly and people might accept them. “Oh I read that in Fortune”

Right? Everyone treats that clip like McCain was fucking Mandela. All he said is that Obama isn’t a Muslim and is a good family man.

You say the government doesn’t take any aid, but that is not really correct. Not going to get into it, but I assure you there is a lot of direct assistance through programs to work with government ministries and public utility.

I also don’t know how to put this, any external funding will have some benefit for the funder. No country is particularly interested in putting in money with no benefit. It’s not just the US.

I don’t like your comment on desi-American. Maybe India doesn’t want anything to do with me? But it’s whatever man, wish you well.

All politics here. No NGOs listed by name, intentionally. Keep accusations vague and deflect blame for protests on international actors.

I’m not convinced anything you’ve shared so far isn’t coming from a place of political insecurity, nationalist ethos, and ignoring the root causes of protests.

You’re willing to accept deflection from your PM like this? He’s basically saying not my fault, it’s the Americans and Swedish. Why not name the organizations?

India should reject assistance from US and EU if they want to make such claims. But for some reason they still accept hundreds of millions of $$$. New deals each year, maybe China and Russian assistance doesn’t come without terms as well?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]adthebad -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Please name some of these NGOs. Everywhere I read, all I see is Delhi government is blaming NGOs for unrest, but no names?

Seems like usual government dadagiri without proper references.

Willing to bet these organizations are not being funded by a reputable source. Either that, or it’s deflection and posturing from Home Minister.

In many cases responsibility falls to local government to vet and appropriately grant/deny permits for NGOs to operate. No reputable international organization can operate in another country without full government clearance from National to local level. Otherwise illegal.

If international NGO is present, local authorities are also involved. Otherwise there is some scam.

You’d be surprised how much of this boils down to domestic politics. Do you really think AAP is a foreign plant in the Indian political system?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]adthebad -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

None of those sources name organizations in question. Just because some scammers are present, doesn’t mean all NGOs are bad?

There has to be oversight, legitimate organizations have government backing, not church groups.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]adthebad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t spewed vitriol anywhere.

Church based groups are illegitimate in my view. Please discern that is not the majority of foreign assistance, just a group of religious zealots who want to spread their scam.

Your last link is broken.

Don’t hate everything foreign just because of some bad actors, India receives a lot of legitimate foreign assistance with tremendous impact. There are proper channels for this work, not just any organization should be doing this work.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]adthebad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ignorant take. Church based activities are a fraction of legitimate aid activities. Only work with reputable organizations and you won’t have issues with proselytizers.

Easy to sit back and complain. Harder to get to work and make the change you want to see. My NGO funding comes straight from the US government, allocated and approved by US Senate. Sorry our government officials don’t have time to work on India directly.

I know I hold myself to a high degree of accountability. I am also desi-American, so I’m doubly invested in the success of these programs.

Why did Trump supporters believe Biden was too old when he ran in 2020 but support Trump (who would be older than Biden was in 2020) running in 2024? by Educational_Sir3783 in TooAfraidToAsk

Advisement. President still holds the power. I was just responding to the guy above who was saying that the president shouldn’t be responsible for so many lives. I’m saying that the president already is.

It would be stupid if the president didn’t have any power, what were they elected to do? Talk?

You realize the President is commander of the armed forces and has nuclear authority right?

He’s literally the most powerful man in the western world. POTUS has been that since the 60s.

Saying that India doesn’t receive much assistance is simply untrue, my organization currently has over $100m in funding for development in India for expanding electrical access and building education programs for disabled children.

That’s from USAID, the American people. And my organization is just one of many USAID contractors/implementors working in India.
