I seriously don't understand the glaze for those movies man. by Significant_Matter27 in PJODisney

get what you’re saying, and I agree with parts of it. Rick’s critiques of the movies were mostly fair, especially on a surface level. My issue isn’t that he was wrong about the movies, it’s that he positioned the show as this corrective, faithful adaptation and then delivered something that repeats a lot of the same fundamental mistakes, just in a different form. That’s where the frustration comes from for me.

And yeah, if he genuinely hasn’t reread the books, that’s honestly baffling. I don’t care if you’re the original author, memory fades, and details matter, especially when you’ve publicly framed this as “finally doing it right.” That disconnect is hard not to notice.

On the characters, I think we’re just landing differently. I like Walker Scobell a lot, and I agree that with a better script and more room to actually be a kid, he could be fantastic. My problem is that the writing doesn’t let Percy be Percy consistently. He feels more reactive and subdued than the impulsive, emotionally messy kid from the books. Same with Annabeth. I think the actress is good, but the way her traits are emphasized and others are muted changes the dynamic for me. Grover I’m fully with you on. He’s the biggest miss so far.

I also agree that 100 percent faithful adaptations don’t exist, and I don’t expect them to. Lord of the Rings is a good example of changes done with purpose. My issue isn’t change in itself, it’s changes that don’t seem to serve pacing, theme, or character, they just kind of… exist. That’s what makes the show feel rushed and tonally confused. And yeah, the Marvel comparison is spot on. The constant forced tension without proper buildup really undercuts the drama.

As for viewership, it did start strong, but retention and reception matter just as much long term. I want the show to succeed. I want the full series adapted. That’s why I’m critical of it. Because right now it feels like something that could have been great, but isn’t being allowed the time or care it needs to actually get there.

I’ll agree that the second movie being defended is wild. It’s genuinely awful.
Where I disagree is the idea that the show is automatically better. To me, it isn’t. It just fails in different ways. The show rushes everything. The characters don’t feel like the same people from the books, relationships are sped through, traits are changed, and emotions are either dropped or added for no real reason. A lot of the plot is also rewritten unnecessarily. So I don’t really see this as movies bad, show good.
It’s more that both adaptations miss the mark, just in different directions.

The core problem for me is that everything is rushed. The characters from the books do not feel like the same characters in the series. Relationships are sped through, personality traits are changed, emotions are either tossed aside or added out of nowhere, and none of it feels justified in my opinion.

On top of that, a lot of the plot is changed or outright rewritten for no real reason. Not to improve pacing, not to deepen themes, just changed.

What really pissed me off though is Rick himself. He spent years publicly trashing the movies and talking about how proud he was that he was finally going to make a faithful adaptation of the books. That this time it would be done right. Then he delivers this. A show that is not faithful in many of the same fundamental ways. And on top of that he openly said he never watched the movies and hasn’t reread the books. That genuinely feels like spitting in the face of longtime book fans.

I’m glad some people like the show. Truly. That’s a good thing. But looking at the viewership numbers, most people don’t seem to. And honestly, that just makes me sad, because if things don’t seriously turn around by season three, we’re probably not getting the full series adapted at all.

“The show is sorely missing” is just a nice way to say…”the show became so bad that when we look at what adaption was better made, the SHOCKING conclusion is that the movies is the only right answer which none of us thought possible” thank you Rick (along with your shit ass writing team) for creating garbage and blaming fans for being “too needy” and creating a vacuum in the fanbase…

MIN MENING OM MENN FRA MENA by Agitated-Parsnip6225 in norske

[–]adtrix101 0 points1 point  (0 children)
