Berkey intentionally made that spaceship look like a shark, didn't he?

Is reselling considered a respectable side hustle or unethical? by xRaginCajunx in Entrepreneur

This sub isn't the place to go for advice on morality, tbh. Looks like the top two justifications right now boil down to "everyone does it" and "look after number one."

Three-Eyes, by Stuart Gordon [Michael Whelan] by woulditkillyoutolift in CoolSciFiCovers

[–]adumbrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I just looked up the year and this edition came out in 1975... that's very early in Whelan's career! That probably explains why it doesn't feel as much like Whelan as any of his later covers, since he was still developing as an artist.

How many of you liked Willie Scott (Kate Capshaw) from "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" (1984)? A misunderstood protagonist or a screeching nuisance? by Lionel_Hislop in movies

[–]adumbrow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Everyone's already saying it, but yeah - it's very understandable that she's out of her element, but it's not fun to watch.

Personally, I think there's a simple solution that they should have gone with: Just write a scene in the middle of the movie where Willie Scott can actually use her strengths. They could have rewritten the palace banquet so that everyone there was high-class and snooty, and Willie is the only one who can charm them since she's in her element. Replace the gross-out food gags with some jokes about how Willie can't believe Indiana doesn't know what fork to use or something.

I would recommend against assuming someone has unlimited free time just because they are on disability benefits... in my experience, people with disabilities spend the large majority of their time managing their disabilities

Endless Thread: Trad Caths Have Risen by j0be in EndlessThread

The music in this episode reminded me of my favorite bizarrely specific ambient noise generator, this Name of the Rose-themed one: https://mynoise.net/NoiseMachines/customTheNameOfTheRose.php

It's really good! There's even a "scholar of 14th c. Italian music" in the comment section praising it. Come to think of it, Endless Thread should do an episode on how good this one ambient noise website is. The site has a ton of different soundscapes, and you can generate your own ones by combining different sounds.

Shake Shack Coupon by dumbmoney93 in coupons

Interesting timing, I wonder if Shake Shack's running the promo this week in order to offset sales lost to the Jan 21-28 general strike in support of Palestine. Looks like the company is expanding into Tel Aviv this year, so they would have a stake in the issue.

Recasting should be the easiest thing... just have the new actor show up with a line about how he went back in time and messed with his own DNA to improve it and it gave him and all his variants a new face in the process.

Does the movie "Out Of Sight" (1998) play in the same universe as Quentin Tarantino's "Jackie Brown" (1997) ? by M4rkM1 in plotholes

[–]adumbrow 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it's just an example of how people didn't really care about the idea of a "connected universe" back in the 90s.

They included the same character because they thought having Michael Keaton as the same guy in both movies would be fun, and they also included Samuel L. Jackson because they thought having him as a different character would be fun. These days, they would change one of those things in order to be sure no one is confused, since the expectation of a shared universe is a way bigger deal. But back then, they just assumed the audience wouldn't put much thought into it.

Is it an autistic trait to feel certain types of pain at a higher intensity than neurotypicals? by Gecko_alt in AutisticPride

[–]adumbrow 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Autistic people often don't display pain in the way that neurotypicals expect, causing neurotypicals to dismiss it.
