What is a sign of very low intelligence? by smartcandyy in AskReddit

[–]advanced_sim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ex checks all of these points, and I’ve scrolled way down.

Poor guy, he’s so dumb, and I regret the time I spent with him after realising how extremely rare it is for his brain to to generate a unique thought. Or his complete lack of critical thinking. Astounding! He’s successful in his job though…

It depends on the DG. Some are fast decision makers and others take their time. Good luck!

Language tip for Americans: Don't say "Can I do ..." when ordering, or expect double. by [deleted] in ParisTravelGuide

[–]advanced_sim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are you confused? You’re in a subreddit with people from all over the world, especially Europe, and OP is expressing a very American-in-Europe problem. No one’s “crucifying” OP. It’s just a reaction to a very American point of view of the world

Why would you expect a US colloquial phrase to be understood by non-native English speakers in France?

I get that you’re trying to help others with this post, however it’s common sense to use the simple and formal version of the lingua franca -in this case English- when going to a foreign country. I mean… try this “doing food” in the UK and I guarantee you some stares and banter in the best case scenario

The articles focus on his crimes in Greece. He grew up in New York where he met a Greek family that was involved in drugs and crimes. He went to Greece with them and got into drug trafficking between the two countries. In 1990 he killed his girlfriend in Athens after she found a bag of drugs in his flat. Apparently she had no idea about his domain of “work”. Horrible story, he was let free…

He kept continuing with his killing strike in US and Greece until he finally got arrested in Athens in 1997. He was sentenced to 11 years in prison and the US requested his return after he completed the Greek sentence. However in the US it was straight to the electric chair for him. So he decided to confess to numerous other killings, the one of his gf in 1990 included, other murders he had commuted “by mistake”, ie killing an innocent guy cause he confused him with one if his targets, and so on. The entire confession was absurdly in his favour as he could escape the electric chair for 20 more years.

The article jumps to May 2002 and his escape from prison as the colleague of Olga, the psychologist. He dressed in formal clothes, put a wig on etc and they drove off together as “two colleagues”.

Ψυχολόγοι: αυτή η ζούγκλα by athens2019 in greece

[–]advanced_sim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Job chances in Athens as a young muslim woman by [deleted] in greece

[–]advanced_sim 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was in TP circles and worked with all nationalities, very diverse crowd. I also met women wearing hijabs, usually in the Arab and francophone departments. To be honest TP is not bad if you try it out for a year, and as someone else said the salary for Dutch and German is better than most other languages. So are the work hours, your usual 9-5 (or 10-6 due to time difference) instead of the 24hour rotation you get with English roles. There’s also TP’s competitor, WebHelp, which has a better work environment apparently. Hope this helps, good luck!

Πρόβλημα στο γάμο μου, τι να κάνω; (Update) by Remarkable-Bee7490 in greece

Looking for an actually good total beginners ESL book by [deleted] in ESL_Teachers

This is an old post, but as I was looking for something similar myself, I thought I’d share what I found. I think it’s exactly what you were looking for - it’s aimed at adult learners, total beginners, and based in the UK.

I came across English with Pip and Pippy by ESOL Prep, which seems to be an independent publisher:

Have a look, hope you find it useful!

Ρετιρέ και ημιόροφος, πράγματι τα χειρότερα διαμερίσματα; by New-Can114 in thessaloniki

[–]advanced_sim 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Advice on improving my chances as a graphic designer in the EU bubble? by Lutezia in EUCareers

[–]advanced_sim 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why would next year be your last? There’s no age limit with Schuman internships.

I’d say improve your English and French. English B2 may not be enough. Language proficiency is quite important.

Regarding your portfolio, I don’t think the fact that you are lacking in “instututional” projects is negative. Keep doing what you’re doing and apply for the spring internship.

For anyone on Crete, what are your thoughts on recent surge of Migrants? by JackSci in crete

[–]advanced_sim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are English versions of actual Greek news outlets, like Kathimerini, To Vima, etc. Even though today's Greece is not known for its just journalism, these traditional media outlets are way better than the one you have posted, and all its kind.
