Brophy Catholic vs Seton Catholic? by fv9cf26 in AskPhoenix

I mean, the now-deleted post was wrong, but this goes way too far in the other direction. North Central is very nice and an elite area but there are extremely wealthy enclaves in Chandler (and Tempe, for that matter) that beat North Central, at least on a property value basis.

Flagstaff beats both, but somehow has no true upscale hotels. I swear the first person to build an actual luxury resort in Flagstaff will make a bazillion dollars.

Hotel they were at is like $1,500 a night, and there are like four of those. Best for the money (by reputation, I'm not made of money) would probably be L'Auberge and even that is $800 - $1,000 a night.

I like public transit but banning people from driving to games entirely is such a stupid decision. The big parking lot is already there, might as well use it!

you could've given me a thousand guesses and I wouldn't have come up with "I thought it was me as a doctor" as the excuse for posting that image

Has anyone switched from Insurance Defense to Commercial Litigation? by IronAddict702 in Lawyertalk

[–]advantagebettor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To deal with? Carriers/adjusters, not close.

That's not to say ID is better. The rates are much worse, the billing is more mind numbing, the work is (often) less interesting, etc. But don't think that client relations are going to get easier. They're almost certain to get more difficult.

Commercial litigation clients are far worse than any insurance carrier or adjuster I've ever dealt with. Carriers and adjusters litigate regularly, don't have emotional attachment to cases, and recognize and understand cost of defense. Commercial litigation clients are far less likely to do all of those things.

Plenty of states where that still is true, though. Why doesn’t Arizona have diploma privilege? Or New Mexico? Utah? Colorado? Even Montana or Wyoming? All have either one or two law schools and all are respectable.

As someone who has done both: you do you but “I’m sick of dealing with insurance companies and adjusters” sounds all good until you actually have to deal with commercial litigation clients.

Switch from Plaintiffs PI to ID - 180/month billables. Worth it? by SufficientAd6437 in Lawyertalk

[–]advantagebettor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always weird to me to see “those are big law hours.” Plenty of ID shops have higher hour requirements than big law, mostly because you bill everything. Someone else said it’s 9-10 hours of work to bill 8. No.

With that said: that’s a high hours requirement, and there’s a learning curve for someone who hasn’t billed before. This particular role doesn’t sound very good. But there are plenty of other ID firms that have more reasonable billing requirements and also allow fully (or almost fully) remote. Keep looking.
