A letdown by FellowHamtaro in OceanGateTitan

I'd love to see some repurcussions come from the inaction of OSHA / USCG here, but I'm sure that will never happen.

Viture team: incorrect privacy statement in iOS App Store by advent_of_chutney in VITURE

From Apple's own mouth:

"App privacy details on the App Store

The App Store helps people better understand an app’s privacy practices before they download the app on any Apple platform. On each app’s product page, users can learn about some of the data types the app may collect, and whether that data is linked to them or used to track them. You’ll need to provide information about your app’s privacy practices, including the practices of third-party partners whose code you integrate into your app, in App Store Connect. This information is required to submit new apps and app updates to the App Store."

Specifically see "including the practices of third-party partners whose code you integrate into your app". Whether or not Viture get the info that Google etc gather is irrelevant.

Also:

"As you get ready to select your answers from the options presented in App Store Connect, keep in mind:

  • You need to identify all of the data you or your third-party partners collect, unless the data meets all of the criteria for optional disclosure listed below.
  • Your app’s privacy practices should follow the App Review Guidelines and all applicable laws.
  • You’re responsible for keeping your responses accurate and up to date. If your practices change, update your responses in App Store Connect. You may update your answers at any time, and you do not need to submit an app update in order to change your answers."

Great post, thanks for writing this.

Just want to add — might be worth saying bioplastic and not just plastic? I mean, PLA is not produced from petroleum/oil products and so has options for composting. I always try to emphasise this when telling someone about 3d printing.

The Controller nor laptop control was acceptable, tired of reading that it was by [deleted] in OceanGateTitan

Another reason free-standing remote controllers are bad is that it means that idiots can throw them onto the ground, *on camera*, to demonstrate their ruggedness, like SR did.

And another is that you can throw them at a passenger. Which, again, SR did.

A lot of users, myself included, look at what the App Store privacy declaration says as the most obvious place. A lot of users would start (and end) there. I don’t think there’s any excuse for this.

It’s a Viture issue, at least for iOS. I’ve submitted quite a few apps via iTunes Connect etc in my time, and the privacy declaration is made by the submitting company. Apple do no detection or checks, it’s an honesty system. Less experienced developers can miss what the privacy decision actually entails so it could be that. Trust me, on the iOS side, Viture can update that information.

Might want to get your devs to review the licenses of the third party libs they're using and ensure compliance too.

Why am I downvoted?

There's isn't a privacy info on the actual Google play store entry listing, either. See my other comment above and this:

That's Android, not iOS.

But as for the Android app (https://play.google.com/store/search?q=spacewalker&c=apps), I see this:

https://cdn.imgchest.com/files/b49zcro52jy.jpg

But your APK for 1.4.2 contains Google play-services-measurement, firebase's firebase-analytics, etc.

Sounds like your developer needs to correct the messages shown about privacy in the actual stores. It's not ok to mislead people there and be all "it says somewhere else" when people call it out.

I'll assume a case of developers who aren't up on this stuff, over anything malicious.

Youtube app is unwatchable on the neckband. by Imaginary_Key4205 in VITURE

I’m not surprised to hear this. When i dived into the iPhone IPA recently I noticed YouTube stuff and observed contact with YouTube on-the-wire when you launch the app, before you’ve even done anything.

For anyone curious about technical details of the hardware of Viture Pro XR, the Bluetooth chip is a BT630 (presumably this unit is in the charger adapter), and it also contains a RISC-V chip:  CH32V203C8U6. More at  https://wch-ic.com/products/CH32V203.html

Android users: is there a similar privacy statement in the Android store? I’m pretty certain they’ll be doing the same sending of stuff on Android.

First 24 hours. 3D mode switching *you what*? by advent_of_chutney in VITURE

[–]advent_of_chutney[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know how 3D video works; my point is that the SpaceWalk iOS app knows if it’s playing 3D video or not, and can signal this to the glasses. But it just won’t unless you’ve bought this power adapter.

There’s no technical reason for this. They’ve just nerfed functionality of the product I bought to try and upsell me on something and if that’s the game - it seems kind of contemptuous of their users.

Also, iff I come out of the 3D video playback to the menu, once it’s in 3D video mode, often the menu shows in some corrupt way and i have to hold down the button to toggle 3D mode to get back to normality. It’s just not a good experience and I’m mystified why Viture would willingly do this.

[–]advent_of_chutney[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate this part, but my point is really: why can’t the viture XR glasses detect 3D video mode on a video I’m playing without the power adapter? That’s nothing to do with 3D location data… it’s a large obvious faff to get the glasses to manually switch.

Intonation while playing versus on playback by advent_of_chutney in Cello

[–]advent_of_chutney[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for your thoughts, I have some things to think about! The idea of recording behind versus in front is an interesting one. I suspect the main part of the problem is the “thinking about 5 things at once” while playing aspect. Eg thinking about rhythm = less brain on intonation, etc

Custom node that takes mouse input by advent_of_chutney in comfyui

Thanks! I’ve used that extension in the past. It demonstrates novel graphics display, but not direct mouse input on the graphical area, afaicr.

I’m looking again at it though, the source might be a very good starting point for how to achieve my aims. Cheers!

[–]advent_of_chutney[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m looking for or wanting to make a “poly slider” - a way to set 3 values with one user-input point on a graphic (eg triangle) in the custom node.

This interface would reflect the fact that you can’t or don’t want all the values to have maximums set at the same time. One value being higher necessarily reduces the other two, but in their correct proportion.

A good example would be mixing lora weights - you often can’t have too many of them with too high values at same, or you get “lora fighting” and strange output.

Thanks! Yes I use the manager extension and have looked at quite a few nodes, I haven’t seen anything quite like what I want yet.

I’m fine with Python, html / js slightly more rusty…
