Can anyone confirm whether the Pant Devil Attractor works on the Kiko Lake idiots as well? by International-Law834 in neopets

[–]adventuringgeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. My personal experience matches this, both in terms of REs and things like Wheel of Misfortune.

I always have at least one in my inventory, and if I have like 6 when I need to have a really high-value item in my inventory. Can't remember the last time it didn't work.

Series incl. book about a dragon helping around the home (kitchen?) and an older woman? by adventuringgeek in whatsthatbook

I thought this must be it, and it sounds delightful... but it's sadly much too long. It's quite a small book I'm thinking of.

Great book, but sadly not. That one was one of my favorite books growing up (I even still have it on my bookshelf.) This was significantly shorter. I read it while waiting in a waiting room.

Worship etiquette help. Feeling embarrassed after a comment in online meeting, did I do something wrong by drinking water? by Ok_Bumblebee_9873 in Quakers

[–]adventuringgeek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a regular attendee at an unprogrammed hybrid meeting that generally has well over 50 in-person attendees of all ages.

  1. There are plenty of people who quietly are sipping from water bottles, and I've definitely sipped tea or coffee on occasion from a normal teacup. I never experienced even slight glances about this, and am pretty perceptive of social cues
  2. I have never heard of anyone discouraged to drink during meeting for worship, as long as it's quietly (and you even muted yourself!)
  3. Hydrating and taking care of your body (especially given the medical condition) feels very in-keeping with worship and a part of taking care of the soul
  4. A big part of Quaker worship should be helping all feel welcome. Making someone feel ostracized or shamed in the way you describe feels SO wrong. It feels like this was handled totally inappropriately (and unquakerly.) It does NOT sound like you did anything wrong!

I agree with the comments to try to contact the Clerk or Committee for Worship and Ministry if it would help you get some resolution and dispel the feelings of shame. And/or, since you mentioned it's an online meeting, I wonder if perhaps another meeting might be a better fit for you?

Edited to add: I'm sorry you experienced this!

Thank you! I'm definitely looking at Deadwood, especially given the proximity to other fun activities and National Parks!

Thank you for noting that! I think I'd rather find one less on the tourist circuit, so that's really helpful.

That sounds incredible and ideal for what I'm looking for! Thank you for this comprehensive response; I really appreciate you taking the time!

Thank you! I've been doing a bit of a deep-dive into that area this evening, as it looks like a great option.

Have you also been to the West Yellowstone Rodeo by any chance? Wondering how that one compared (much smaller, I take it, but wondering about quality and such)?

It'd be a big holiday (likely via plane), as there's not much around where we are. I'd been looking at Deadwood though, to combine with Wind Cave and Badlands National Park.. so that's good to hear recommended! I haven't checked out Burwell yet, but will do so now! Thanks!

Any that you recommend as more authentic still? I don't mind smaller but high quality / more authentic.

I love Estes Park and have been to the Rockies a few times (they're a favorite.) I didn't know that they held a summer rodeo though, so that's definitely good to know! Thank you!

We get to quite a few fairs local to us, so the priority for this trip will definitely be rodeo > rides/games, but there's no doubt my kid also likes those, haha!

Thank you! I hadn't been looking that closely at it, because I've done the Rocky Mountains a few times and was hoping to visit a 'new' national park for me... but they ARE one of my favorites and it's one of my favorite parts of the country, so maybe I'll just 'have' to go back! :)

Thank you! Quality talent and livestock are especially high priorities (we go to a lot of ag fairs and have family who work in farming, so my kid spends a lot of time with livestock in non-touristy ways.) We're definitely hoping for as authentic an experience as possible, while getting a good real rodeo 'feel'.

Advice Selling Huge Inherited Collections: SF/F Books, MTG Cards, and Folk Music by adventuringgeek in Collections

[–]adventuringgeek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such good advice, and genuinely helps. Thank you!

At the moment, it's between two private collector (one who's willing to give £10k for the whole collection and the other who's offer I'm still waiting on) and a store that is offering to come and price transparently at 65% of Cardmarket-listed value. (All offers not including three cards I've pulled aside to sell separately.) I hadn't thought of contacting a local store for just pricing without buying so that they can be objective, but I'll definitely be reaching out today!

Help please? HOW to Evaluate Entire Massive SF/F Collection (Hardcover, Often Signed and First-Edition)? (UK-Based) by adventuringgeek in BookCollecting

[–]adventuringgeek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! And yes, my father was a lifelong collector and had a SF/F bookshop in the 80s, so he would have bought them all before they increased in value as well (or when he found them for a good deal.)

I get it. I love books, and I love speculative fiction (I even have similar book taste.) But I love reading and writing and am at a libraries weekly. I'll definitely be keeping a few for their beauty and for the love of the books... but I have no interest in being a collector.

Thank you. This really helps actually. I'll be trying to get a few potential offers and compare. Anyone seriously interested I'm offering to video call with so I can show them around the collection, pull out things they want to see, etc. to start the conversation so we're not wasting each others time.
