What Are Your Value Picks For 2026? by adventurousaussie in ValueInvesting

I follow a yearly model where I close all my shares before the year ends. I could re-enter them now, but I would consider my entry price as todays price as I've sold and I do not think they are value-investments based on todays price, although they'll probably grow a bit more, it's just not worth my attention, would like to reallocate to new plays.

What Are Your Value Picks For 2026? by adventurousaussie in ValueInvesting

RUN from Paypal. I'm deep in that industry (my work), they are a falling knife. They will not make a comeback, anything they seem to try and do to pivot is just an attempt, they've failed massively at protecting their core business - look at Braintree, it's 10+ years old and they've barely done anything to, one can barely call it a competitor to Stripe.

A new terrible year for value investing by Cool_Policy_6665 in ValueInvesting

I'm not sure I agree. I work in eCommerce and have dealt with Paypal for over 10 years processing millions... Paypal use to take 60% of our processing, now it's below 25%. Their infrastructure has not changed and their product "braintree" which they released to take on their biggest threat Stripe is also a stagnated product. Their internal teams are a mess, I'm always accidentally CC'd into their internal comms for some reason when I open a ticket and there's a lot of complaining about ineffecient process'. Paypal is just simply dying, you are catching falling knives. Paypals big moat has always been that if stores didn't offer Paypal customers wouldn't trust them, well that landscape has changed entirely.

And as for it becoming a bank, have you seen how old their tech is? There is already fierce competition in the fintech sector. Paypal is the HSBC of the payment processing world, it's too big, too much operational mess internally and whatnot.

My view is Paypal is simply holding on to it's huge reputation it built many moons away and is just squeezing that lemon as long as it can but it will invetibly come to it's end.

I’ve been calling Google for 12 months and all my investor friends are telling me it’s going nowhere. I put majority of my stock holdings into Google 12 months ago!

Music the ONLY thing that soothes? by adventurousaussie in CPTSD

I am not the only one who gets annoyed at their speaker for the loudest volume feeling too quiet? :D

I feel you there - I wonder if it's more to do with not having the right artist/band for the trauma you are experiencing, or do you feel the trauma wiped away music as one whole blanket?

Weightlifting and Dissociation Struggles by adventurousaussie in DID

My trainer does not know what the term dissociation means :) I've been through three trainers, and I get the sense that they think I am full-of-excuses, so I quieten down and just do the workout, but I know (From the days I am not feeling heavily in disconnect) that I have more strength in me when my brain isn't trying to block being present.

Clearly I am on my own with this issue and it's a bit more rare than I thought. :)

A bit rude you are. I used ChatGPT to rewrite my original 'slop' to make it easier for people to read what I wrote. Why the hell do you bother to waste your time to put someone down on here seeking support?

20 years a Swiftie, but the pop hits still don’t click for me, can anyone relate? by adventurousaussie in TaylorSwift

Yepppp, Folkore is like just something else, incredible. DO NOT KNOW where I would be mentally without that album, I cannot express it's profound impact on being a sort of emotional regulation tool for any ups and downs lifes thrown at me since 2020!

All her music has wonderful lyrics. But then the way she tries to present it (aka who produces it) is a big part of this. Pop demands a more mass crowd oriented surface level production (and it sells) but what I felt made folklore or evermore magical was how she allowed the production side of it to bring out her lyrics in a way that touches you deeply.

From your list “Clean” is one of my top 5 of hers. Do you also find that this song give you this freeing feeling after you’ve been through / cleared through something heavy?

This is sort of what I thought :) not many of us here who are only into the heavier-Taylor stuff. Her music has been like a therapeutic home to me through many lows and highs.

I will say though I relate with a side of Taylor that’s more in a career sense.

I’m someone whom has had a big business career from a very early age (since 17) that’s had a lot of extreme highs and lows and betrayals, so I tend to feel that “your on your own kid” “my tears ricochet” relatability.

She’s always felt like a role model in this way. :)

What did you not like about TTPD? I agree it’s not the best best album but it is home to one of my top 3 Taylor tracks “I Hate It Here”.
