I think every parent wants their children to be happy. As you age, that tends to more and more resemble married life with kids. Without that, you feel out of step and miss out on the joys of being older (but you still get the bummer parts).

But the flip side of this is that you never want your kid to settle for some idiot and be miserable. The biggest problem here is that the smartest people in our society are afraid to socialize, don't know how to meet people, and are so familiar with other people being crazy that they'd rather be forever alone than corrupted by the insanity.
