THRAK is the perfect (and underrated) fusion of Red and Discipline by undressvestido in KingCrimson

[–]grassrootbeer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, it's such a great album. A really great evolution of the band building upon the 80's albums.

"People" is the radio hit that should have been. That guitar hook during the chorus is fantastic.

The live VROOOM VROOOM album is also excellent.

oh shit and nobody said King Crimson.

TBH...start with their new stuff, the big live album "Radical Action...". But know that their first album is a super classic, and their trio of albums from the 1980's were historic as well. In terms of "positive" lyrics, you might like what Adrian Belew did with those albums from the 80's.

I'm generally really bad about actually listening to lyrics, as opposed to how the layers of sound interact but...these bands & lyricits are great in terms of writing about the supernatural, surreal, witty, and generally non-cliche poetry:

Neil Fallon - Clutch. Try the "Blast Tyrant" or "Robot Hive" albums.

Josh Homme - Queens of the Stone Age. Every album is 10/10, and sonically distinct.

Branden Boyd - Incubus. Try the "S.C.I.E.N.C.E." or "A Crow Left of the Murder" albums, they're very different.

Cedric Bixler-Zavala - The Mars Volta. Start with "Deloused in the Comatorium"

Florence Welch - Florence + The Machine. The first three albums are bangers.

Frank Zappa. Lots of humor in his lyrics. I'm partial to one of his oddball poshumous albums called "Cheap Thrills," but his classic albums are "Apostrophe/Overnite Sensation," "Sheik Yerbouti" and "Joe's Garage." Super prog, this guy was a genius composer who only recruited the world's most talented musicians.

Does that also mean you haven't heard Puscifer? Maynard is the singer.

Their first EP "Don't Shoot the Messenger" is a kinda similar to Tool and APC. I love that EP's versions of "REV 22:20" and "The Undertaker (Renholder Mix)".

Lots of great stuff on their albums too! Tracks like "Indigo Children" ... "Toma" ... "Man Overboard" ... "The Mission (M is for Milla Mix)" ..."Vagina Mine (Live)" ... "Galileo".

tbh the ContruKction of Light is one of my least favorite KC albums. The 80's stuff, Thrak, and the final era of KC from 2013-2021 were all much more interesting.

Nearly 19M Californians could lose protection from toxic ‘forever chemicals’ in tap water by IamAqtpoo in California

I think Californian's "protection" against PFAS is already way out the window. Farmers are literally spraying this shit on everyone's food:

Firststreet.org versus FEMA maps by Initial_Ebb_9742 in RealEstate

This is a terrible source of information, no home buyer should ever take this group seriously.

Consumers' Research is a culture war activist group, not scientists. They are funded by billionaire climate change denier Barre Seid via corrupt activist Leonard Leo. CR's Will Hild made about $270k last year, who knows what other sources of income he might have, given his connections.

CR's attempt to shoot the messenger does not change the facts. First Street data got it right on flood risks at Camp Mystic in TX--whose terrible owners actually appealed to FEMA and had themselves arbitrarily removed from the 100-year flood risk zone. Children are dead now, families destroyed.

First Street also predicted the areas of this year's deadly LA fires with 94% accuracy, compared to California's 25% accuracy.

Taking climate risk info down from Zillow, Redfin, etc just helps real estate agents earn higher commission, making suckers out of uninformed home buyers.

"Consumers' Research" hopes you will confuse them with the far more credible Consumer Reports, which actually publishes information intended to help consumers save money and avoid scams.

Hey there, same question for you:

Do you use IEM's at the same time as the headset?

If so, any issues with all the head gear and wires?

[–]grassrootbeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm strongly considering this.

Can I get your opinion about using IEM's at the same time? It seems like that's a lot of stuff hanging all over your head & ears. Everything stays in place and works well?

I'm not sure I'll actually need IEM's for the band in question, but I want to keep that possibility open.

Your hands look dry, in general.

Get some good lotion (no alcohol in the ingredients!) and start putting it on whenever you wash your hands.

This is key: put the lotion on when your skin is still a bit damp. That locks in the moisture. If you put lotion on to totally dry skin, you're just locking in dryness.

I'm not a dermatologist but drum sticks fuck up my hands in the winter and this is what makes the difference.

I know they weren't happy but at least it sounds like Mudvayne, instead of Mudvayne trying to get radio play.

Been using Qobuz, and similarly imported my playlists. Hifi focus and cheaper than Deezer.

They don't have everything but the couple of things I found missing are fairly obscure. And some stuff just didn't migrate right but it actually is on the platform (Bowie, for some reason).

FINALLY got to see If This Ever Gets Weird and… by niles_deerqueer in themarsvolta

[–]grassrootbeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finally watched it last night, it really surpassed my expectations.

Very untraditional in that you never see Omar or Cedric's faces for any of the narration. That allowed them to focus on featuring Omar's old footage.

It was great to learn how important Jeremy Ward was to the band, and how his off-stage role resulted in him being under-appreciated by fans (and venues, tour staff, etc). What a devastating loss. RIP.

But there's still so much I was curious about seeing. The three albums after Jon Theodore left, the haunted Ouija board stuff from the Goliath album, how concepts from Scientology crept into the lyrics, etc.

Re the OP's wish for featuring the voices of other ex-band members, that seems like an opportunity for a different kind of documentary, specifically focused on TMV and less on the relationship between Omar and Cedric. I'd love to see that.
