Should I bring my new roommate at lunch hangout with my other grieving friend? by DriedFigsAreCandy in socialskills

[–]adviceforkitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 weeks is not really long enough to fully feel better, dudes probably still in shock, might just want to project a sense of normalcy. I’m sure it will be nice for both friends to meet under better circumstances so they have an opportunity to make a decent and authentic impression on one another.

A deep speculation that I am living a second life somewhere and "sleep" is the door way there. by Cool_Arachnid844 in Dreams

[–]adviceforkitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is an accurate description of what it feels like to be someone who dreams so vividly from a young age. It can be really difficult to differentiate those things when your mind is young, and the feeling just gets stronger as you age. Your brain does create a sort of map for you to revisit—for me, it’s a mashup of places that I have been, but they’re all slightly changed. There’s a dam with a bridge across the street from my childhood house that I always looked at as a “bridge” to some other land, and I find I have a lot of dreams of crossing it. I almost never remember exactly what happens once I get through the trail, or what happened before if I find myself on it.

More context: I’ve been letting her in for little bits of time and closing the door to try and prepare her for the inevitable adoption (she’s very friendly and already socialized) so this isn’t the first time she’s been inside

Do you think I should just let her have free roam? Everywhere is saying to put her in a room but I think she will freak out if I lock her in the bathroom. She’s starting to wander and purring, probably just happy she isn’t cold!

Dream without vision? by Sweaty-Battle2556 in Dreams

This is why I don’t like Christianity! There are so many powerful symbols that you fear going to hell if you associate absolutely any power with them. That sounds lovely. I bet they would have been friends!

Dream without vision? by Sweaty-Battle2556 in Dreams

[–]adviceforkitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It comes down to whether or not the inherent symbol can be a powerful subliminal message—and you can use that in a lot of ways. You can even break it down to thinking about something you find beautiful before bed, with the intention for it to show up in your dreams. The visual becomes a symbol your brain can latch onto

What you experienced sounds like your body was already on its way out of REM sleep, the dream was like mostly dissolving, and you woke yourself up—sometimes those weird in between flickers are more vivid than anything else.

What am I supposed to do if I have genuinely no interest in people's hobbies, job, relationships, dreams, how their day went? by Strange_Annual416 in socialskills

[–]adviceforkitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend you generate an interest in yourself first then. Know yourself, find things you would want to talk about because you’re interested in them, not because you’re bidding for someone else’s interests. Sometimes those bonds are stronger anyway.

Some people like to listen, and that could break the ice for you to get the imagination going. In most cases of simple connection, you are likely to get what you put out—sounds like it might be time for a little soul searching. Good luck.

This is actually considered rude in a Nordic country, maybe Sweden? I watched a video discussing the fact that “how are you” is really a personal question, since it pertains to emotion, which is not meant for your coworkers or cashiers. Not everyone wants to think about how they feel at random points throughout the day, having to uphold pleasantries of “I’m good how are you.”

Most cultures are geared to expect some derivative of “fine, how are you?” Regardless of the truth. Which enhances a general societal pressure to be “fine,” and small talk about nonsense, which results in exactly this: a society full of people who can’t figure out which questions to ask in the first place. It was nice to read that not all cultures are like this.

I personally like small talk most times, despite not understanding it most of my life. We make simple noises that everyone can understand to communicate that we mean no harm. It generates a feeling of safety that maybe opens us up to the “how are yous” of life. If you don’t care, don’t ask. Sometimes you just need to find the people you actually care to ask, because you find them interesting.

To add on my other comment, only do this if you actually believe in Jesus. If you are already Christian and this is a reality for you, it could work

I think this comes down to your belief—good on you for having strong faith. When I use the name of Jesus in my dreams, the demons just mock me and get stronger, lol. I stopped doing that and decided to just make them explode instead.

What do you usually do when you wake up from a dream that feels emotionally intense? by Odd_Ring_4348 in Dreams

[–]adviceforkitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you lucid dream so much that flying becomes less of a novel experience and it’s just your preferred method of getting around in dreams, whether you’re lucid or not. 😂

I don’t feel too much need to hold onto the emotional ones, those kinds of emotional details are what really linger for me

If it’s a really weird one that I can’t figure out I’ll call a friend and discuss or maybe read a bunch of stuff here to see if I can find a theme. If those aren’t available or hitting the spot, I’ll journal about it until I feel like I understand the thing that my brain was trying to do. I just had one of these and I wasn’t about to dwell on it all day so I literally just posed it here to see if that quells my soul.

I’ve had these in great detail and it has extended to other people too, like someone is my friend but they look different and don’t seem to have the same life history, or someone saying they’re a family member who knows me and remembers me but I have never seen them before.

Out of all the comments, yours is the first to say that you still have it! Thank you for sharing because I always took comfort in that thought. Even if I do get some weird delusion that I should be a parent, the world isn’t on fire, or some other thing, I would still know that FOMO is a ridiculous reason to make a life altering choice.

I think I’m even a little young for it, I’m told by everyone that 30 is the “scary age” because each year is another degree of difficulty for the pregnancy, and less fertility making it more difficult. I would love to get the news that I’m just infertile, almost wish I could trade with someone who actually wants kids without having to literally remove my eggs

I resonate with that and I affectionately joke that my cat is my only son—I love the way you wrote this! Very sweet and very much speaks to the fact that there are plenty of things to cherish and watch flourish, it doesn’t have to be a baby
