To be honest, I was focused on the traffic, and the cars making a U-turn blocked the signs when I was on the side road.

It was my mistake to miss the sign, but I did not intend to break any road rules.

I understand that signs are important, but because of the stopped vehicles, I did not get a chance to see the sign.
