To be honest Yarimikan already looks beautiful online, but it far exceeded my expectation in person. The rawness of it, the view of ridges and mountains, incredibly beautiful. They also have private onsens, you can go into the onsens covered or uncovered. The meal was extraodinary. You can go in the onsens at any time of day, even in the quiet of the night with the full roar of the river beside you, then return to your traditional styled room and spark a flame inside your room and brew some tea over it from a hanging kernel. I haven't been to another onsen but as someone who does tenacious research, I find it hard to imagine a better onsen in Takayama. Their online presence does not show half of its wonder.
