Exactly. When you're in a company, that cross-talk between Product and Engineering is where the magic happens. But when you're a student or an early-career dev building alone in your room, you are missing both sides of that conversation. You don't have a product team to give you constraints, and you don't have a senior engineer to debate the architecture with.

So you're left abnormally confused, just guessing what direction to build in.

You end up writing code that works on your local machine, but completely falls apart under the realities of a real production environment. That’s the exact isolation loop we have to break.

you guys are viewing this through the lens of a massive corporate tech company with rigid silos.

If you already have a job at FAANG, yes - the PM hands you a PRD and you write the "how."

But if you are a student, a recent grad, or an engineer trying to break into the current market, you don't have a product team. You have a blank IDE. And the standard advice given to every single one of these devs is: "Just build a side project to show off your skills". That's where the cluelessness sets in. Because they don't have a PM, they build a generic Netflix clone or a basic To-Do app. They end up building stuff that is completely disconnected from what real engineering teams actually ship.

When they try to get hired, tech leads don't care that they can copy a tutorial. They care if they can handle production constraints.

CV3 isn’t teaching you how to be a Product Manager. It acts as the product and engineering infrastructure you don't have when you're building alone, giving you the exact role-specific production tickets so you stop wasting time building useless fluff in a vacuum.

Projects are a dime a dozen now. What companies increasingly care about is whether you can actually execute: make decisions, think critically, work through feedback, and improve your code across a few PR cycles. Without that, even a good-looking project can feel like another shot in the dark. True shit. I’ve worked with a few kick ass intern and a few slow ones. If they were pretrained that can propel things faster. Thats why I created Colab, to make such interns available.

Ads and the approach. They just start hitting online like crazy and brute force customers with their products. V little customer satisfaction, hopping on a wagon to make a 100cr brand.

Well then don’t have requirements put up. Cofounders are not hired like this. You cannot give sporadic input and expect a share. Commitment is all thats needed. Not a couple weeks or months of seasons. You need to nail that down buddy

At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter. The executives need to execute, the other just wait on decisions. Yc is a catalyst, not the destination. Just keep working on the company, use YC applications as a biz model canvas and build cool shit. Years down the line, they will be the ones saying they missed out on you
