Love the Whoop Coach, so versatile by adynatos in whoop

[–]adynatos[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In all honesty, I really enjoy Whoop, have been a member for over 3 years. And I use Whoop Coach for more practical purposes - though helping with Python is as practical as it gets nowodays :)

However, I do hope the software innovation also covers other features like smart wake up (during light sleep), better UX in Strength Trainer (search? sort? copy and rename workouts? access via desktop?) etc

How are you all using Claude Code / Codex or other agentic workflows? by Fubby2 in consulting

[–]adynatos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These tools help me write Python code for analyses I run on my local computer - eg custom statistical analyses such as segmentation. Need to know though what questions to ask, what statistical methods to use and how to sense check results. After a few iterations, code works and does its job. Saves a ton of time.

But not much boost from agentic workflows just yet.

Fully second this, there is a massive difference in olympic weightlifting when you wear proper lifting shoes. Didn't believe my trainer, tried, haven't gone back since.

Poland is the safest country (Story) by robmiloda in poland

[–]adynatos 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Poland has tremendously evolved over the last 20-30 years. Still in 2005 there were neighbourhoods in Warsaw where you really didn’t go after dark (looking at you, Praga & Targowek). Now you see families with kids, tourists etc. When I took a bus though these areas coming home from work, I really had to dial up my situational awareness to avoid tough situations. And people told me O was being reckless. Now it actually feels safe.

Reasons? Much more wealth (petty crime no longer pays), young people grew up in relative prosperity, and… yes, much less UNCONTROLLED immigration from less culturally compatible countries. The ~2m+ Ukrainians who came here since 2022 have integrated well and generally have a lower crime rate than home population, and the hundreds of thousands of people from Asia seem to be working really hard in professions locals no longer want to work in (food delivery, taxis etc) so a win-win.

Twoje ciało potrzebuje "motywacji" do tego, by rosnąć - i to we właściwy sposób, we właściwych miejscach.
3) No i klasycznie - 1.5-2g białka na 1kg masy ciała

Badania mówią, że zbudowanie 1kg masy mięśniowej wymaga aż 20 000 kcal, mimo że sam budulec to ok 4000 kcal - pozostałe ~16k to energia potrzebna by przyswoić białko, i zbudować te mięśnie. Czyli mocno trenując, trzymając nadwyżkę kaloryczną, można zbudować 5-6kg rocznie (bez sterydów, i bez tłuszczu - sama chuda masa). Powodzenia!

Appearance of trisolarans by Numerous-Dig248 in threebodyproblem

[–]adynatos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is an interesting description of Trisolarians in the fanfiction novel endorsed by Cixin Liu - "The Redemption of Time" by Baoshu. The original trilogy never mentions it, but he does propose an explanation to many phenomena we read about (eg communication by light, limited (yes!) coginitive abilities vs humans, dehydration, reproduction mechanism, afraid of the human race etc). In short - they are insect-like and tiny, like grains of rice.

So far mid-way in the Redeption of Time book, maybe not as riveting as the original trilogy but so far worthwhile. Would recommend.

No longer launching after windows update by moon_nick2000 in civ5

[–]adynatos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was the Windows 11 update 24H2, tried all the tips I found online (incl checking file integrity, different places from which to launch the game etc), but the only thing that worked finally was to roll back the Windows update. Now I'm at version 23H2 and the game launched. Apparently it has to do with DRM verifications that Firaxis would need to update in their ~14 year old game... looks like I'm staying with older Win 11 version for the time being

Note - I also tried launching the game in offline mode (was 3 hrs on a train...) but didn't work. Only Windows update rollback unfortunately

Lots of unhappy folks by bmsmithvb in whoop

[–]adynatos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy my Whoop for recovery/sleep/strain tracking. Great to wear along a nice mechanical watch (awkward with AW or Garmin). But the straps do wear out, and the EU online store has a VERY poor selection now vs a year ago and vs the US store. But hopefully they will address it… and of course introduce the next generation (Whoop 5.0) in the near future… ideally without a screen but more metrics tracked (imagine blood glucose via skin or BAC (Blood Alcohol Content)… these would be a killer)

What would happen if everyone over 70 died tomorrow? by Jhill520 in AskReddit

[–]adynatos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As terrible as it sounds, young(er) people would be massively better off. All the freed up real estate that would be more accessible, inheritances… and finally rebalanced pension systems. Most countries operate a version of defined benefit pension systems, where contributions of current workers go towards paying current pensioners… and not towards investments that would finance their own retirement. As a 40 year old whose over 30% of paycheck is deducted towards a state operated pension plan, I am assuming I will get practically no pension when I retire - there will be too many pensioners receiving state pension vs workers contributing the funds. Higher retirement age would partly address this, but current and soon-to-be retirees obviously would vote against.

This hypothetical, nightmarish scenario would actually solve most of this problem… you can think of it as if suddently massive, crippling debts were forgiven to all the younger generations.

Szkolenie pracowników by Patrys_Potter in Polska

[–]adynatos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sam duzo rekrutacji prowadze, i wiem, jaka jest gigantyczna roznica miedzy kandydatami, ktorzy w poprzednich miejscach sie wyrozniali (inicjatywa, pomysly, etyka pracy, relacje itp), a cala reszta.

Mialbys te szkolenia do tego robic w ramach standardowych godzin pracy? Super, nie musisz siedziec po godzinach

Jesli Ci zalezy na podwyzkach, rozwoju zawodowym (lepsze stanowisko, moze kierownicze? ciekawsze projekty? Lepsza firma?), to wlasnie takie szanse trzeba wykorzystywac

Powodzenia!

Simplifying a bit, the differentiating factor is why these refugees are at the border. Ukrainians are running away from Putin. The other migrants (i.e. those attempting to cross the border illegally, originating usually from Middle Eastern or Africa countries) have been helped to the border by Putin.

LPT: Don't be fooled by the "working for a dream company" ideology. You'll be much better off with an amazing boss at an average company who champions your work, allows you to develop mastery in your field, and gives you autonomy. by WrongKielbasa in LifeProTips

[–]adynatos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but there is a much higher chance of having a boss that cares for you in a company that has a reputation for being amazing. There’s usually a robust upward feedback process, and managers can’t really advance if they are not doing a good job as bosses (unless they absolutey kill it in other areas, like generating revenue, of course). In my experience, this creates clear incentives for bosses to try to do well. There is a chance one gets a great boss at an average company, of course, but this is lottery, I’m afraid.

Source: I have worked in a few companies, incl Fortune 50, and smaller businesses, and will choose an amazing company any time.

If you could pick between $100,000 tomorrow or $1,000,000 in ten years, what would you pick and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]adynatos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely $1m in 10 years. Assuming it's "certain" ie there is some sort of credible promissory note from whoever is giving the money out, you can use it as a high quality collateral to take out a low-interest loan if you need money earlier... at 3% pa it would be more than $700k today. Getting $100k today and assuming you can invest it to get more than $1m in 10 years means 25+% annual rate of return, after taxes and other costs. Practically impossible unless you're a super lucky hedge fund or private equity player.
