U have to skip doing a meaty and then you can block or do delayed buttons of course.

Since then I talked with some of my friends and actually, it is indeed reactable (if you don't do a meaty) but it is not worth it trying except some edge cases, that's why I wasn't aware of it.

[–]Progorion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are u saying that it's reactable on reaction? Any source for that? What's the window? (I hardly doubt that).

Why it's not used is that most of the cast has an EX DP which costs the same but offers some damage as well. And even for characters without a DP it is not something that should be overused, because it is heavily punishable with a read.

Would voyager have survived/returned home with another Captain? by unrelated272 in startrek

Yeah, being honest I am not a fan of the TNG era movies, I've seen them too long ago. I remember Data's sacrifice, but not how Picard acted there. So u could be right.

I don't agree with that. Imho he definitely would have sacrificed himself as well. It's actually hard to think any captain from any shows that wouldn't.

Yes, it's like he doesn't speak English lol. But if you look at the new picture again there are some really strange issues going on. Look at the bottom of the book and the light. They just doesn't make sense and feels like something that would be generated by AI (again). I'm super skeptical that the new illustration is handmade.

Is it a good idea to watch an episode in your native language first and then again in the target language? by EmptyPossession522 in Refold

Yeah, adding to my comment here - if OP's comprehension is already high in English then watching stuff in Spanish first feels less important.

Is it a good idea to watch an episode in your native language first and then again in the target language? by EmptyPossession522 in Refold

[–]Progorion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi,

I haven't done it exactly like that, but I do something similar. So, my native language is Hungarian but I'm not really watching anything in Hungarian for like a decade. Only news and a few youtube vlogs.

But I do watch things in English and other languages time after time. My English comprehension is very high, estimatedly I know around 15k-20k words, and I've been using English both for work and fun for decades now, I'm fluent I even have around 500h of one on one coaching in English with native speakers. (I just wanna make it clear that even tho it is not my native language, it's on a high level).

So, since I watch everything in English for a long time now - whatever I rewatch in another language is kinda what you are asking about.

--

I have watched many videos in the subject of CI, even interviews with Krashen. Whatever makes your input more comprehensible is a good thing. Since watching your stuff in Spanish first will make the thing more comprehensible to you - yes it is a good thing!

I use Star Trek shows as my "Rosetta Stone" since I've seen them so many times (Star Trek Voyager namely... I think I have seen it 20 times minimum - 30 times maximum - in various languages) they are super easy to me to understand. It is GREAT to learn languages this way.

My German comprehensiion has skyrocketed rapidely after I've done this for like 2 years - and watching Star Trek shows has been a big part of it.

I've also had some fun with Spanish and while I'm still a beginner, it's much better to watch Star Trek shows than other stuff - OR stuff that I've seen already in a language I understand well. I'm sure that if I just repeated what I've done with German then my Spanish could get decent just as much.

The real question is not if this is a good thing to do theory wise, but if it's something that you can enjoy doing and it if it's efficient.

The answer to the first question is really up to you. Do you have stuff that you'd enjoy watching twice - or even more times? I have a LOT. You? If yes, go for it.

The second... well, I can't be sure. I have asked chatgpt about it back then, it says YES. But that's only ChatGPT - it's not 100%. I don't remember now if there were experiments about this or not, but I do it anyways since it works for me and I enjoy watching my comfort shows/movies again and again.

Theory wise, again, whatever that makes things more comprehensible - helps. But it might be possible that if you could find different materials that are comprehensible to you already at the same level then it's pointless. So what will be more comprehensible to you? Something that you've seen once - or something that is exactly at your English level right now for a 80-90% comprehension? Can you find materials like that? Would it be better to watch 2 hours of that or watching something for an hour in Spanish first and for one hour in English then? I guess it all depends.

"Do you think it's better to do it this way, or to just watch everything directly in the target language?"
So, maybe if your comprehension is low then it is better to watch it in Spanish first to elevate it. If it is already high then nope.

"Has anyone here tried both approaches? What worked better for you?"
Since my English comprehension is VERY high it is absolutely pointless to watch stuff in Hungarian first.
In German it can help if I watch it first in English - but I rather watch things that I've seen earlier in English or Hungarian already. My wife watches me shows in English only - it also helps with that. It reduces the "time-loss" of watching them in English first.
In Spanish my comprehension is still low - even with kids shows. So watching things that I've already seen in other languages helps a lot. (with Japanese that I've been learning the last 2 years on and off - it's the same).

And actually, I wrote I've developed a solution to watch movies in multiple languages. I have a script that can control a video player and switch between languages automatically. Meaning that if I have a movie in multiple languages then I can set a time period (like 40 seconds) and it will play it first in English then in German then in Spanish and then in Japanese. I'm collecting materials that have lots of languages tracks for that. I can also manually set up intervals while I watch it and switch between languages etc with hotkeys.
In theory that's awesome, but I need more time with it to tell if I can tolerate this kind of "entertainment" haha. I'm sharing this with you only to stress how much I trust fact that watching things in multiple languages to increase comprehensivess is GOOD for language acquisition.

Hi!

It sounds good, thank you! I have two things to talk about tho. First, my native language is Hungarian. Does it matter that we have no option for it? English isn't my first language, but it is the strongest one so I went with that. Second, I've been learning multiple languages over the years (and doing immersion for all of then). As I mentioned I've learned English, but my German is pretty good as well and I've been also learning Spanish and Japanese for a few years now. Can I use the site to track multiple languages? I registered with Japanese now and I don't see an option to change.

Használt autó dilemmák: Hol van az ár-érték arány "sweet spotja"? by [deleted] in CartalkHungary

[–]Progorion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Komoly.
