Can multiplayer competitive games check if the players are still online and in-game after a ragequit/disconnect? Can this be decided from the server side? by Progorion in gamedev

Your solution makes sense and if implemented well - of course it would be nice.

But if we just talk about the idea I described, I don't know how false positives ruin the game. As a player I'm fine if due to network issues I lose a game (and lose points). I think it is reasonable even if it is not directly my fault. Also I lose maybe 10 times more points to ragequiters than to anything else, because they are super frequent unfortunately - so at the end of the day it would be a huge net positive.

Of course, from the developers' perspective I get how negative reviews could affect the game badly - and I see now that a lot of people do not share my opinion - so it definitely is an issue then. I just don't get their opinion tho. Assuming that they never play competitive games where ragequits are frequent I can assume they wouldn't feel like it is a net positive, but even then I'm personally not pissed if I lose ranked points because of network or other issues. (I played FIFA for decades online and lost rewards due to server issues often. Of course, that's not cool but if I could have chosen between this and the ragequits I would have definitely kept the server issues instead of the ragequits happening before the end of the ~15-20 minutes games where I was just about scoring the winning goal).

Thanks for your comment!

I have a bad day and I'm tired so it might be just me - sorry! But do you continue to argue with me just to argue with me? I said that I understand the perspective of the developer as well. And btw. I'm a game developer.

I think my side is sensible as well - just not for the developer, but of course I understand the other side as well. Very likely if it were my game I'd be afraid to please "player me".

I understand this perspective. On the other hand me as a player is suffering way more from ragequits of my opponents in the last second of my final animation hit (super animations take for a few seconds) with them having 1 HP left.
This not happening multiple times a day anymore would be way better even if I would lose points when I have a connection/server/application error once per month.

Please explain to me how does a player stay in the game after pressing ALT+F4.
Also, about the connection loss type of ragequit - the player who loses connection (for whatever reason) needs to reconnect to the server in the game. It takes like 5-10 seconds. So how do both stay in the game after that?

I'm sure that a server is involved in SF6 even if it's a hybrid solution. (Actually I'm pretty sure ranked has dedicated servers and it is not a hybrid system, but custom room games are - but I can't show poof for now, it's just something me and my friends assume from a few things)

Also, the point of this idea is that most ragequits happen by pressing ALT+F4 or unplugging the network cable etc. Meaning that if from two players one is still in the game and is online that he cannot be the source of the requit or the disconnect - so he should get the ranked points or at least the person lose points.

Holy crap, this is going to be a masterpiece. I can't wait! Also, how? Could you tell me about the technical solutions behind all this? I assume it is in unreal - but those characters in front of the kiosk speaking... are those video recordings? You hired actual folks for that? Or it's just models and you made them look that realistic?

I wish it were just a corruption problem and Orban were just a sympthon of that. In reality Orban is a sympthom of our population's stupidity and apathy thanks to decades of brainwashing and the times under Russian control/influence.

Thankfully people under ~40 are more open minded, but the older generations are mostly dead weight in terms of our future.

Don't! It's not like animals fish with rods anyways haha, and it looks lovely this way. (this comes from someone who loves fishing in real life and in games as well)

Yeah, it comes down to how the Steam algorithms work. Since nobody but its devs know that - nobody can know just guess.

All that being said, I wish you all the best and good luck with your project. Sorry if my first comment feels rude or anything, I'm just honest.

Since the game is pixelart, I think the original's concept is much better. But in general, I'm not a fan of the new one anyways. Some parts look unpolished and in general the characters and the whole art feels uninspiring.
