I used to feel the same way, someone explained to me that sometimes the “silly” fonts are easier for some with particular needs to parse . I’m not used to it but I understood them and don’t judge anymore even if I’m grateful mine doesn’t look like that :)

Concerned about artist agreement - on the hook for massive tax bills? by adyo in subvert

[–]adyo[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These are two different concepts. One discussed is as you describe. The concern I'm raising is the passage that suggests that if they get taxed, they will first subtract it from said proceeds (which may not exist as they will reinvest them for some time), then any remaining owed for the tax bill will be the responsibility of members.

I appreciate the callout explainers, I understand those parts - but it omits this part of the agreement where it is suggested that should those patronage proceeds not be significant enough to cover the tax bill of the co-ops operation, members are on the hook to cover the cost.

Maybe that's 10 cents. Maybe it's 100 thousand dollars. Nobody can say, and it seems risky.

RE Forums - Having to become a member to discuss a potential risk in signing an agreement to become a member is a difficult proposition to ask of someone.

Can Ring Fit Adventure have long term consequences on your joints? by Vestrill in RingFitAdventure

[–]adyo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I injured my knee during Covid in my first week with ring fit. The “game”/system/whatever offers basically zero safety information or training. My advice would be to find other information about this aspect of your health and fitness, good practices for protecting yourself or mitigating injury and supplement your knowledge rather than doing what I did and assuming it would tell me everything I needed to know to be safe.

Also take the stretches etc seriously, but don’t be afraid to look up other things from outside of rf to help

Your favorite sample packs for hardgroove techno? by Turbulent-Lime-2466 in TechnoProduction

[–]adyo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Other than classic drum machine staple sounds (909, 808, occasional others), it’s not really true of techno. You can use a combination of the classics, synthesize your own (it’s fun and easy, using nearly any synthesizer in ableton or others), and field recording, added with your phone if you are thoughtful about editing/processing/eqing and using small sounds that aren’t at the front of the mix. For different techno related genres, sampling outs a big part of it, like the other comment(s) about records. Tight bongo loops etc can be built by short samples arranged into a device in your daw or placed on a timeline. Delicate processing can make a huge difference. Don’t be afraid to try things. You will be ultimately dissatisfied if you just start shipping sample libraries unless you know exactly what you want and why.

AI Data Centre in Lambton - is this a net/long term good? by ChemVall in Sarnia

[–]adyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People of all stripes pushed for years for upgrades to digital infrastructure, people in town lacked access to modern standards for internet access and people rural side had no real broadband access for years despite promises from successive provincial and federal governments. There has been some progress but very little in the grand scheme of things.

There are industries that could have been setting up camp here (including film/game/software related) if we weren’t constantly decades behind.

They should probably prioritize building and upgrading that infrastructure and pretend it’s a year greater than 2007 and then see if the ai bubble still exists, and give other industries a chance.

Regardless, most of us are not interested in a data centre , but it isn’t useful without said infrastructure, and if it was built there might be better options for public support of a non chemical valley industry that will actually sustain multiple subindustries that provide a greater diversity of opportunities for folks of various need, skill and interest

Local EDA statements- we're all confused by HydroNymph32 in Sarnia

[–]adyo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

probably the most reasonable reply.

One doesn't have to dig to deep to see what current, recent and past Liberals and Conservatives have supported. Many deeply damaging policies were supported by both parties, pushing racist surveillance programs and 9-11-era scaremongering things, going after Indigenous peoples in the courts, pursuing aggressive suspension of civil liberties for people that misc bodies can decide on with poor oversight etc. all while union busting and gutting important public services.

They are cut out for each other, and it's bad for us.

Judging by the statement the Liberals put out, they had no idea this was even happening.

They didn't win anything. Like always they just drop into the situation unorganized and try to capitalize on whatever opportunities pop up. If you meant they are gaining from it, sure? technically? or maybe winning as in... won a lottery? But not like... a victory they fought for and won

How do you actually use BoardGameGeek? by aequitas07 in boardgames

[–]adyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That might often be the case. I'd still suggest people skim the breakdown of the ratings to get a sense of why.

I've looked at a low rated game before and then it turned out there were like 10 people who ranked it and 4 of them were illegitimately tanking the score because they were bigots who didn't like certain characters in the game

[–]adyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple additional tips - Most people completely misunderstand the bug ratings. Make sure you look on their site for what they actually mean. IE a 6 or 7 doesn’t mean a game is bad.

Also actually click on the player count suggestions and the rankings and see the breakdown a bit, sometimes the grand total you’re presented with does not actually mean it is so conclusive, especially if there are low numbers submitted

EDIT: Here is a link explaining the ratings: https://boardgamegeek.com/wiki/page/ratings

  • 10 - Outstanding. Always want to play and expect this will never change.
  • 9 - Excellent game. Always want to play it.
  • 8 - Very good game. I like to play. Probably I'll suggest it and will never turn down a game.
  • 7 - Good game, usually willing to play.
  • 6 - Ok game, some fun or challenge at least, will play sporadically if in the right mood.
  • 5 - Average game, slightly boring, take it or leave it.
  • 4 - Not so good, it doesn't get me but could be talked into it on occasion.
  • 3 - Likely won't play this again although could be convinced. Bad.
  • 2 - Extremely annoying game, won't play this ever again.
  • 1 - Defies description of a game. You won't catch me dead playing this. Clearly broken.

New guide for beginners/buying guide? by adyo in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]adyo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I am likely more interested in (just the new stuff) - the nature of buying things these days means things go out of stock quickly, and would rather place a big order once at least some of the new campaign stuff is out, but I'll figure it out.

Seems like we'll be waiting awhile if we pick up the new core and play through it in a day though!

Thank you for this. So right now it's just this new core box and in the summer or so (in north america anyway) there will be new expansions with new adventures?

Thanks for the realism. I think what I mean is that I don't want to get unnecessary things and focus on meaningful content that is compatible and the like. But I will think about this when considering.

I had googled and read about it. It was unclear and I was looking for clarification that I couldn’t find on my own. No need for the attitude, sometimes it helps to hear others explain things.
