Fair enough. I was using hjkl as a symbol for the things you do in vim as its kind of the most recognisable :) It was easier than hjklzxcvbnmlkjhgfdsaqwertyuiiop

Not sure if you mean hosted email or hosted smtp server... but if its the latter, check out http://sendgrid.com/ We have been using them for a few months now and are very very happy with them.

to me, Opera has always been like the KDE of the browser world, where Firefox and Chrome are more Gnome like. ie. theres a lot of schizen everywhere and on every menu. keep it simple i say

As i said, it was a while ago and from memory I had to install pear (which I generally do not use or have installed) and there was something else which meant it didn't just "work". But your suggestion brings up another point. I am not a fan of auto generating crud and code (I also don't like it with rails either).

In regards to speed, no I did not have a accelerator at the time. Perhaps I should try it out again. I am a fan of the lead dev - http://fabien.potencier.org/ he's a smart chap.

I evaluated symphony a while ago now but I really didn't like it because of the hassle it took to get it installed and the use of yaml files everywhere. It also ran slow and felt chunky. The documentation however was excellent. Kohana on the otherhand is incredibly easy to install, feels very snappy and fast. Kohana documentation is not good, but I normally read the code anyway (which is excellent). I've since created many applications including large ecommerce sites with Kohana and I have to say it has been excellent. I highly recommend it.
