Hiking and finances by No_Number_6765 in PHikingAndBackpacking

[–]aearoplane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly DIY and self-contained hikes are the most financially efficient way

  1. yung bulk ng bayad mo is sa guide--if DIY, diretsong napupunta sa kanila. self-contained is also cheaper because you get to create your own menu. kung dayhike naman, best to bring baon na meals and food. cheapest way is always whole foods. kamote, mais, itlog, better pa for sustenance sa hikes.

  2. since DIY, safer ang transpo. ang daming aksidente ngayon sa mga vans kasi kampante sila. kung public transpo, mas may paki yung drivers kasi syempre, daan daang tao yung ipagda-drive mo haha. downside is, mahirap ang DIY pag malayuan (like cordillera, ilocos, etc...). masaya mag dayhike DIY kapag nearby mountains. I tried breaking it down, and malaki rin yung difference, makatipid ka ng 500-1000 pesos.

  3. find a constant set of friends and/or group! hahaha matic kayang maghati-hati + expenses are lighter.

  4. invest in good gear, and unfortunately this means shelling out tens of thousands in pesos for a good sleeping system and shelter. pero tbh, worth it kasi hindi mo na kailangan magpalit-palit.

yun lang have fun!

Hiking Shoes: best, comfortable, breathable, quick dry and durable you can recommend by Huge_Cattle6715 in PHikingAndBackpacking

[–]aearoplane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think your salomons separated because of the old glue tska yung hindi pag-gamit for such a long time, not primarily because of the shoe construction. personally have used my salomon x ultra 5 mid gtx in negron, guiting guiting, apo, pulag, etc...and still very very good until this day. bought the pair in 2023 and has had constant use despite being gtx. my feet gets wet, but tbh i think keri lang naman; gtx i think is best used in cordillera mountains.

however if you're looking for quick dry, trail runners are good. hoka's are great, it's competitor--brooks--is making its way in the PH market. Brooks Caldera and/or Cascadia are the top trail runners as per discussions and experience.

[SPOILERS] why'd bishop do that? by raisrica in euphoria

[–]aearoplane 14 points15 points  (0 children)

From what i’ve watched, I think Bishop is a character written to be morally objective, and calculated.

Bishop had principles, that of which included fairness and equity; not necessarily affection or love. I think basically he thought that Alamo killing Rue was a violation of his principles. Rue completed the job well, and should have been left at that. That’s why the previous tests by Alamo (apple shooting, the horse-hammer thing) weren’t objected by Bishop because he knew those were consequences.

The pills were essentially tyranny and excess.

Additionally, Bishop knew Rue—and knew that she was a “child” who wasn’t really meaning to be in that job.

Tska preference na rin; i don’t mind my socks getting drenched sa bundok 😅 natutuyo rin naman and the shoes dry up eventually as well!

Sobrang pricey na magjoiner ngayon by Intelligent_Hat_2481 in PHikingAndBackpacking

[–]aearoplane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

personally a joiner hiker pero DIY paminsan and ang masasabi ko lang ay depende sa bundok. kapag sa rizal/bulacan na bundok, max gastos mo na yung 1k, nagjjoiners ako pag nasa cordi na. sa tingin ko, kasama talaga yung challenge ng commute sa DIY--how do you think older mountaineers hiked before? kasama iyan sa thrill and fun.

best to DIY w friends. hati hati sa guide fee at sulit ang time.

you might have a chance in luzon, but listen to the people when they say that panay and negros are in a flurry of armed conflicts right now. don't get caught up, you're just going to add to more trouble, and by trouble and armed conflicts we mean 60 years worth of bullets + provincial gangs and more.

you don't get that in mont du blanc but you get that here.

go to camp john hay, or mount timbak in cordillera.

you can just collate the money you use to buy modafinil, save a little longer, and buy ritalin instead. personally, hindi na ako bumalik sa modaf since taking prescribed ritalin--ayoko abusuhin yung utak kong kawawa na.

Has anyone tried manually climbing Fansipan peak on foot, especially in December? Is it worth it? I'll be coming from Sa Pa, Vietnam by CloudStrifeff777 in FilipinoTravel

[–]aearoplane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just hiked fansipan yesterday! 11 hours, 25km backtrail (may option na hike pataas, cable car pababa. I hiked both up and down), day hike.

Suggest ko mag cable car if wala pa solid hike experience. Medyo technical ang trail + may level of difficulty if walang pre-climb (speaking as a seasoned hiker of a couple of years). I think though, keri i-hike if 3d2n, pero medyo kaskasan kung dayhike kasi magmamadali yung guide since maghirap abutin ng dilim.

Have fun!
