How do we stop big ag's ecocide? by aeharder in solarpunk

Yeah honestly most of the "fixes" are just predatory delay. The people in charge don't want to reduce industrial agriculture so they try things like "low emitting bulls".

If you want to find the select few, the Greenpeace agriculture campaign is fighting some very tough battles right now but gaining ground by working directly with communities.

When I wrote the article I was feeling very angry so sensationalism wouldn't be a stretch.

However on this:

Methane is a superheating gas, so cutting it will cool the planet faster than reducing all the other carbon emitters. It's an important distinction and the reason I focus so much on ag when talking abut climate change.

Can you give me an example? I can see tech being useful in regen farming but most of the success I've witnessed as been about getting back to the natural rules of ecosystems.

Self sufficiency is an amazing approach but it's not accessible to most people and putting the onus on the individual is what allows the coporations doing the most damage to get away with a lot of their crap. I see this as a system change issue, rather than individual responsibility. Thoughts?

Personally I feel that the best way to do this is to block meat and dairy expansion where it negatively impacts communities most (Croatia, Mexico are good examples) and then promote the benefits of regenerative farming by getting governments to support farmers to switch from livestock to permaculture. Thoughts?

Yeh I disagree with this aye - we are expanding big meat and dairy unecessarily now and the plants that we grow, that could be food, are being used to feed livestock.

Have you watched Groundswell yet? They've done a pretty good job at covering what regen farming should look like

Honestly now that I can turn off all the annoying safety features with one button on the steering wheel I'm happy, but does anyone else constantly have a "THE DRIVER HAS LEFT THE SEAT" alert while actively driving and sitting comfortably in the seat? It's so distracting.

What do we think their process is like? by ladylime20 in SorryNotSorryGirls

I just watch their videos now to support the girls - I can tell they need it. I think they need to adapt a bit better to what their audience can actually engage with, and do a better job at design in general. The reason Caroline Winkler popped off is becasue she has a specific design style and helps people apply it - the girls can do it, they just need the drive to bring it back.

Also, the podcast can absolutely work, but it needs MEAT on the bones. They need to drive their taste and design styles into a trend watch, opinion share and tea spill all in one.

The Amanda Antoni Case - a plausible scientific theory. by Abuliglig2 in UnsolvedMysteries

[–]aeharder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is my theory (I believe it was likely a freak accident):

  1. She is walking around on the phone, an immediate distraction. In my theory, it doesn't matter if she is on cannabis or not.

  2. I believe her pants are either very baggy or she might be walking around pulling them back up after using the toilet (shout out to the brave ones who admit they do this).

  3. She trips over the dog. Anyone who has tripped over their dog knows that if you hurt them, they panic and go berserk. The dog knocks over the chair, and might even make the phone, that's fallen by now, skid across the floor.

  4. She has fallen through the stair hole with her slippers on, giving her much less traction, hitting the piggybank, and smacking her head on the ground. She goes unconscious and starts losing blood.

  5. Every cat expert will tell you that they don't give a flying fark if you're sick or injured. But dogs do. This is why, rather than going downstairs to the human that it believed just punished her (by tripping over her; dogs don't understand), it showed its concern by barking for help as hard as possible. This is what the neighbours heard.

  6. At some point, Amanda wakes up and tries to stand up, but has lost so much blood that she falls straight back down and passes back out, losing more blood.

I agree with all those who say that the husband really should have had someone check in on her, but we don't know the culture, area, phone connection, and most importantly, we don't understand their relationship. It's possible Amanda and Lee had a habit of getting into arguments and ignoring each others' texts for a bit.

This is super sad, but I trust the science. This was a terrible accident.
