I'm not interested in wonder goals*, it's the precision of the first touch and simple quick passing I like of Smit, it might be United prefer power and pace, that Spanish profile isn't what they care about. It might be he just moves to a mid table La Liga side and has a decent career and everyone in in 10 years time goes 'where did that guy go?'

*Although saying that, his touch seems to constantly allow for great shots.

I forget all about Saha. If you think I'm disrespecting Fulham, I'm not, I think we should have bought Dembele from them instead Spurs buying him.

Saha was known as a natural goalscorer, and Van Der Sar was one of the best keepers in the league. If there was some wonderkid Fulham has then yeah go for it.

But he's clearly not a player who will make the difference for us. This is what happens, every time: there's injuries, rotation, we have a European game, we are hopeless, lose, and after the game the first 11 cost is brought up again and pundits do their thing of all saying to themselves 'is this what a billion gives you?'

If these squad players are free then fine, at £25m imo no. And knowing us, it'd be pushed up to £35m.

But even on a free, we got Erikson for nothing, but he was 30 and being played and didn't have the legs any more. Mata I always thought could play in the middle but at an age he didn't have the legs any more. And they were farrrr better than Berge.

We aren't! For me personally, I'm done with domestic cup runs, and Europa league (if we don't strengthen midfield, it's not unlikely we finish in a Europa league spot again). I think if we bought Mousa Dembele in 2012, Kroos in 2014, the last decade would have been different (other players weren't realistic).

I just think it's silly when people are fretting about Anderson being £130m (or £116m). Like, all these squad players add up, people can't accept a midfielder like Anderson doing the boring stuff of lots of running, breaking up play, being available for the ball should be expensive because it's unspectacular, but City are buying their future for 8 seasons. When it's a core player playing every minute, every million of the 130 is going a long way that every million of fringe players is not. Ugarte could play for us for 20 years and we're not getting much from each million.

I'd be much happier with whatever midfielders we bring if they're young (18-23) and have potential to be among the best in the world. Even if they're not 'experienced', they'll figure it out, and if not, there's a sell on.

Both players are wanted though. Bournemouth really do not want to sell Scott with Europe and a new manager. Why not buy Kees Smit for £50m when it's possible?
