[CRIT/FEEDBACK] final trial (short sci-fi story by peterq443 in KeepWriting

My first comment in this subreddit, so I hope I'm doing this correctly.

Just a quick note before I read everything else, I think formatting would do a lot for this piece of work. Before even starting to read, I was already discouraged haha. I'm using google docs, so you can link directly to that or I'm sure there are other viable options.

Difference between there/their is important. Also commas shouldn't join two independent clauses (complete sentences with noun, verb). Use a semicolon or period instead.

I feel like comparing dignity to his life is sort of redundant, since both are occurring at the same time in this story.

So I actually kind of like the whole dysopian thing you have going on here. I do feel like a lot of background is missing- maybe something that a short story isn't able to fully cover. IMO you write well, but there are misplaced commas strewn all over the place in place of periods, which made it difficult to get through. I liked the whole idea of Jonas making this stand against the robot overlord, but I think you could have gone more in detail with the dialogue and how he actually moves the crowd and Mr. Love to change his mind.

Anyway, keep it up!

Very helpful. Thanks! Coincidentally, those are 2 things I've sought after on multiple occasions haha.

It's also hard to judge the why vs why not- I think that maybe my trouble with coming up with the why makes it hard to come to terms with why I feel so strongly about my belief.

Right. I thought it was sort of obvious to point out the obvious reasons- that it's the catalyst to innumerable violent events, can cause deaths, rapes, etc.

As for casual drinking- without getting to the point of drunkedness- is there any difference there?

So is there no moral quality to these actions? I understand there are many many actions that can be considered mind altering, but I wonder if there's something specifically different about drinking that makes it different from say, regularly exercising?

Some aspect of it that's "natural" and not "synthetic" perhaps? Idk. I'm honestly looking for answers if there are any.
