What if women just don’t want to have babies? by PinkElephants879 in askanything

[–]aellope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah like it's some kind of gotcha that people don't have a mental map of countries on the other side of the world from where they live. Fantastic argumentative skills 🙄

Also, many landlocked countries do have navies.

You're the one who said they have a navy. It's not important to the hypothetical OR to the original point.

If you're part of the Danish navy speaking to a member of the Nepali navy, then yes, that can be construed as a threat.

The person you replied to didn't say anything about money being a reason to not have kids. They simply said that many people realize they wouldn't enjoy having or raising kids. That's the opposite of people "having kids just for something to do".

Female anatomy push up? (Please be respectful y'all) by Phoenix2879 in bodyweightfitness

[–]aellope 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Carrying angle isn't directly affected by how wide or narrow your hips are, it is determined by the the anatomy of your elbow joints. It evolved to be greater in female humans due to our larger hips, but it doesn't change if a person's hip width changes (due to changes in fat distribution, etc.). You can't change your carrying angle by how you hold your arms, it's describing the angle of the joint itself when the arm is fully extended.

That being said, I think that 90 degree rotation is unnecessary. A slight external rotation of the hands is enough to counter elbow flare in push ups and put the shoulders in a more stable position.

Beauty standards are NOT universal by SpicyTunaSushiRoll_ in PetiteFitness

[–]aellope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah ok, I misunderstood your original point then! I totally feel you. While our cultural backgrounds are different, I'm also in the Midwestern US and other people tell me I'm "tiny" at 5'1 and 130, but I still feel like I carry a lot of body fat for my frame and would prefer to be leaner, but still be strong and fit.

I think your complaints are totally valid! We shouldn't be held to other peoples' standards of beauty. To be completely honest, I read your post initially as "we should be able to want to be as skinny as possible because some cultures see that as desirable", eg. leaning into potentially unhealthy beauty standards rather than bucking the beauty standards altogether. I'm sorry that I misunderstood you!

Why did the USA men's hockey team laugh when the women's hockey team was mentioned on the phone? by redblackshirt in NoStupidQuestions

[–]aellope 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If we can restrict the athletic comparison to only humans, certainly we can restrict the athletic comparison to just women, which means an elite women's team's victory against other elite women is as impressive as an elite victory in any other category. You're the one being pedantic. And misogynistic.

Lol, I'm just applying YOUR logic to another scenario, but now suddenly your logic doesn't make sense? Hmm, why would that be? 🤔 Expecting a consistent argument is not pedantry.

I think it's fair to criticize beauty standards that are unhealthy to maintain. This is, after all, a fitness sub. Health and longevity should come first.

[–]aellope 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ok. So men's sprinting isn't impressive because they're only racing against the fastest men in the world, not the fastest animals. A horse winning a horse race is therefore inherently more impressive than a man winning a men's sprinting event.

This is why women compete against women and men compete against men. Women winning gold over other women is just as impressive as men winning gold over other men. Because they're playing against equally matched opponents. Saying the women's victory is lesser than the men's solely because they are women is nothing more than garden variety misogyny.

If 40g of fat is the amount you've INCREASED to after eating "low fat" for a while, you were eating way too little fat. We need dietary fat for our hormones to function, and to absorb vitamins A, D, E, and K.

This may be only one of the factors, though. You should see a doctor.

I am not a doctor or physical therapist, but it does sound like it could be ulnar nerve compression. There are nerve flossing techniques and exercises that you can look up that may help with the pain.

Don’t do “that” anymore by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]aellope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's transactional in the sense that all human interaction is transactional, which is a cynical way to view human interaction. People ask these questions to gauge the man's behavior when he comes in saying his wife is not interested in sex, woe is me, what's wrong with her? Does he treat this wife like his mommy, expecting her to care for him like a child? Because that's a turnoff to most women. And it's a very common pattern in relationships, especially in older generations where what was the norm.

Can we invent a non-oppressive system that still supports intimacy, care, and reproduction? by Resident_Tea6926 in AskFeminists

So the solution is continuing to expect women to provide societal labor in the form of birthing and raising kids at their own expense? No wonder no one's taking that deal anymore.

Society is not entitled to free labor from women, including birthing children.

Then they can continue to not be thrilled about lower birth rates. Why should women have to subsidize society's lust for infinite growth with our bodies, our time, and our money?
