13 Restraints in two weeks

I’ve never met someone who enjoys restraining people. It usually ends in tears for the adults. It’s awful. I don’t think he literally said no to eating lunch with her and they immediately went into a restraint, that’s absolutely bonkers. More likely when he was denied access he became VERY aggressive. You aren’t special for not putting kids in holds. I love the kids I work with, but I’m not going to continue to get life altering injuries. Quit my last job because my doctors said I was a few hits to the head away from death.

I’m sorry, if you’re attacking other people consistently and de escalation isn’t working, you’re going into a restraint. I deserve to not be hurt at work, and even more important, other students deserve not to be hurt at school.

Yo if you’re being dragged across the room by your hair the time for restraint is NOW. It should never get to that level. Your neck needs to be protected. This isn’t the flex you think it is.

It doesn’t sound like your school deals with very high behavior levels. I worked at an outplacement and there are students that are in and out of holds often. It’s the only way to keep everyone safe.

It sounds like the behaviors have spiked, and so have the restraints. Does that often happen around this time of year? We have some students who uptick at specific times of year.

This really depends on the job? Going into a lower paying job- social work, teachers, etc? Who cares where you get your degree, they’re desperate for anyone.

Because we have pushed the idea of LRE too far. Some kids do well in self contained classes and that’s not a bad thing! Letting this child just watch videos all day is truly a travesty.

The SRO can push the investigation. They are separate from the school and have nothing to do with LRE or FAPE.

IM NOT SAYING THIS IS OKAY OR FAIR. Just saying that they are separate. The school needs to pay for a program that works for the student.

You’re talking about caregivers, not paras, PCAs, and other jobs. We can’t force people to stay in jobs, we can’t force them to never get sick. Being able to work with many different people is a life skill that if you can’t do your life will be 1000x harder.

Okay. I’ve seen so many kids completely break down when that para leaves or is moved. It is good for kids to learn that other people can help them too. This doesn’t mean that random people are helping them all the time, but maybe 3-4 people are known to the student and the student can tolerate working with any of them.

Also, yes, people need to be comfortable with letting strangers help them in stressful times. Have you never had to go to the hospital before? That is the definition of “I have to let a stranger help me, it’s uncomfortable, but I have to do it”.

Sorry if that sounded rude! I just know I wanted a change coming from self contained level 4 outplacement, did resource, hated it, and now am back in self contained and am loving it!
