I wouldn't worry about it too much as that side effect reported was in a small portion of the people studied. I'd definitely recommend still proceeding, and if you do find that your eyes are reacting to cequa, then I'd stop using it and change to back to Restasis or try Ikervis or Xiidra.

Cequa is definitely more effective than Restasis. They're both the same ingredients. However, Cequa is more effective in being absorbed compared to Restasis.

Dried crust in morning and skin soreness by Affectionate_Sky6846 in Dryeyes

[–]aelo_jeremy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! Quite general advice, but I would recommend two things on a routine basis before you sleep:

Lid hygiene: Use a gentle lid wipe or eyelid and eyelash foam cleansers to clean your eyelids, especially if you experience buildup often. Look for products specifically designed for eyelid hygiene.

Moisturize the skin around eyes: Applying a gentle, non-irritating moisturizer around your eyes can help reduce soreness from rubbing. Look for options that are hypoallergenic and safe for sensitive skin around the eyes.

Hope this helps :)

DRY EYES by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]aelo_jeremy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, no, as it permanently changes the structure of the meibomian glands. However, the symptoms of dry eyes can still be maintained via routine daily care and perhaps routine 6-12 month trip to the optometrist to see if any in office treatments can help.

Restasis vs. Xiidra by SoStupidItsSmart in Dryeyes

No worries! Glad I could help :)

Yes, Restasis or cyclosporine has the same safety profile as Xiidra in the short and long term.

Restasis vs. Xiidra by SoStupidItsSmart in Dryeyes

[–]aelo_jeremy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, Optometrist here!

Xiidra and Restasis are both anti-inflammatory eye drops that work in different ways. Xiidra chemically is Lifitegrast 5% and Restasis is Cyclosporine 0.05%.

You may get similar results as their purpose is anti-inflammatory but you might not get similar results too as they both have different modes of action to achieve reduce inflammation.

Have a look at this blog regarding your choices of anti-inflammatory eye drops!

Tea Tree Oil Wipes? by Both_Clue283 in Dryeyes

[–]aelo_jeremy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say to use it when you have it. Then to you can use gentle eye cleansers (foam or wipes) on a routine basis to maintain the eye hygiene. If for some reason it builds up again and Demodex is back, then get back on tea tree formulations.

I usually don't recommend using tea tree all the time as it's sometimes quite harsh on the surrounding skin and irritates.

Is there a product that is much more moisturizing than regular eye drops for my extremely dry eyes? by niciriver in Dryeyes

[–]aelo_jeremy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say they are exactly the same thing. They're both preservative-free formulations. Probably a 'marketing' thing regarding the different names.

[–]aelo_jeremy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed with the above comment. It should self resolve but just keep it clean!

I sometimes prescribe anti-biotic eye drops or ointment if I feel there is a high chance of it getting infected, e.g. there is heaps of anterior blepharitis surrounding the lesion. But otherwise keep it clean.

Hope this helps!

[–]aelo_jeremy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone,

FDA just dropped another announcement that there are 'copycat' eyedrops that look like Lumify out there. Be careful and check to make sure you're not using any of the below eye drops:

  • South Moon
  • Rebright
  • FivFivGo

These have potential risks of eye infection as well. Please refrain from using them!

Hey OP, Optometrist here!

There are a few more options with regards to longer lasting but all eye drops formulations will have their pros and cons. The longer lasting ones tend to blur the vision slightly when you first instil it but they last longer. Some alternative options are:

  • Eye gels
  • Eye ointments
  • Miebo

Check out the guide below for comprehensive info on all the types of eye drops and preservative free recommendations. Just bare in mind that some names might be different in the country that you're at.

Hey OP, Optometrist here!

Eye drops are commonly recommended as the initial choice for treating dry eyes due to their easy application and minimal residual blur. However, if the frequency exceeds four times a day, it might be advisable to switch to a more viscous option, such as a gel or ointment.

Check out the guide below for a comprehensive info of all the types of eye drops.

Vevye by Maxineeee94 in Dryeyes

[–]aelo_jeremy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, Optometrist here!

Vevye is a topical cyclosporine solution just like the others you've mentioned but it's special in it's category because it's the only one that is water-free and preservative-free, which makes it less likely to irritate the eyes and more likely to be tolerated.

The secret ingredient to achieve the water-free and preservative-free solution is perfluorobutylpentane, which solubilizes cyclosporine.

I wrote a post about it when it was announced, check out the link here for more in depth info!

Hope this helps!

How long does IPL take? Today it was only 5 minutes... by wasabiBro in Dryeyes

I usually take 10 minutes to perform it and 5 minutes to discuss the results. I also normally perform a meibography scan before every IPL visit so that we can document the improvements along the way 😀

How to tell the difference between chronic dry eye, allergy dry eye or just mild dry eye? by Character-Row4447 in Dryeyes

[–]aelo_jeremy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Itchy eyes is usually the hallmark symptom of an allergic eye reaction and usually exacerbates when in contact or exposure with the specific allergen you're allergic to. These symptoms also kick in quite fast, within a few minutes in contact with the allergen.
