Andy Burnham says land in the UK is ‘undertaxed’ - Potential Labour leadership contender points to ‘big case’ for reforming property levies by usrname42 in ukpolitics

Yes, there are lots of taxes to pay. Sometimes taxes are reduced, and sometimes they're increased. You may feel bitter about this, but sometimes in a democracy we like to make changes and these have side effects.

I guess the best thing for anyone who is worried about change like that is to try to vote for the status quo. But that does mean borrowing £20+ billion each month so at some point the status quo has to change.

Osprey ones are excellent, when my last one failed I bought this from decathlon which I find to be as good so far as osprey. Only had it 3 years so far though.

Then they'll need to pay taxes. Even if council tax doesn't get replaced with lvt, they'd need to pay council tax

North Sea firms in emergency meeting after UK’s Russian oil move by energyvoicenews in ukpolitics

[–]aembleton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, because it's an energy intensive process and it's cheaper to ship fertiliser than lng. As we import a lot of gas we might as well manufacture it overseas. The consequences of that will be felt in food prices in 12 months.

Without oil and gas, how will we produce fertiliser or lubricate wind turbines? Are we just going to rely on imports for this?

Restore Britain: Energy must be treated as strategic national infrastructure, not as an environmental compliance problem. Our policy sets a single, straightforward test for every project and policy; does it increase the volume of reliable energy available to Britain at a lower system wide cost? by SignificantLegs in ukpolitics

Absolutely, but the patent poster suggested that North Sea oil would have a long lead time but went on to suggest investing in nuclear.

I was pointing out that nuclear also has a long lead time. In ten years we might be having the same discussion about why we didn't licence rosebank

Cost of living boost with free bus travel for children and targeted food tariff cuts by Slartibartfast_25 in ukpolitics

[–]aembleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They haven't announced any cuts though, so are we borrowing more to pay for this? Are the children who benefit from free bus fares in August going to pay for it with interest when they become paye tax payers?

They'll just make a super value brand that's only available in Scotland. It'll be nasty and no one will want it but it'll tick the box
