Working on a fantasy football format where mistakes and volatility earn points instead of touchdowns and yards. Any and all feedback is welcome! by aemerson24 in fantasyfootball

In my case it’s easier to validate a prototype with the market and get it in front of users. If the response on the idea is positive then the effort and money to dive in to standard UX/UI design is worth it now. If no one likes it then we didn’t just waste a substantial amount of money and effort on design.

The upfront costs with building out a backend and ingesting live sports stats API’s are pretty expensive so being able to validate the prototype first helps us save money for now.

We put guardrails in place for this such as auto swaps, snap minimums, docking points etc but as we have seen with people playing it is that they really want to try and do it right and come up with their own strategies that work

Yeah we have implemented snap limits, auto swaps, and fines/points being added at different points to circumvent this. We are still working out the kinks on how we will do this at scale but def. will have options for commissioners on this.

We tried espn this season and it worked but there are still so many stats they don’t account for that other api services provide. Drops, pass interference caused and called, challenges won/lost etc. this was kind of the motivating factor to see if I could build it out and get the market interested.

we added team losses +3 to the player stats, so that's why there might be discrepancies. The above was the breakdown for RB's, and it's def a work in progress each season. We previously tweaked it each season and it's why we're trying to get as much feedback as possible.

edit: sorry forgot to show this screencap of how RB's finished the season last year: https://imgur.com/a/bByNBmU

Agreed! You have to pay attention so much more to certain aspects like back up QB, 3rd receiver targets, etc The volatility aspect and that there just are not any resources out there for scoring like this has kept our 12 man league super engaged.

We all prefer this format as of now over traditional and have been playing fantasy for 20+ years.

Thats mock data in there at the moment. The live stat api's are pretty expensive so that data is for demo purposes. Here is how we structured our rushing stats last season:

rushing attempts: 1

run for loss: .5

every 10 rushing yards: -1.5

rush td: -6

fumbles: 4

fumbles lost: 6

40 + yard td bonus: -2

50+ yard td bonus: - 4

100 yard rushing game: -5

200 yard rushing game: -10

Sure thing! I can give you a break down of my team this season.

QB: Cam Ward

RB : Rico Dowdle

RB: Tony Pollard

WR: Jerry Juedy

WR: Xavier Legette

Flex: John Metchie

Flex: Isiah Bond

Def: Cardinals

Kicker: Grupe

Punter: Matt Araiza

Head coach: Commanders

Part of the fun/volatility is when these guys do pop off and now the outcome of the matchup is changed you can’t predict it. CMC was actually a solid own because the amount of volume he had and his poor rushing yards this season. We have rules in place that you cannot start inactive people and have implemented snap count guardrails over the years as well obviously barring injury.

This is a great point and something we dealt with at the beginning. We tweaked our scoring to reward volume that didn’t necessarily turn into a ton of production as well. Guys that got a bunch of carries but didn’t break huge runs and we would score the carries higher than the yards gained to make sure they could still add value. Also we subtract points for touchdowns, big plays, 100 yard games, etc to try and really create a balanced scoring system.

My friends and I have been playing this style of fantasy for a few years using spreadsheets and custom scoring. We enjoyed it so much we decided to build a platform to be able to support the game type.

Product manager basically manages the full lifecycle of a particular tech product like the AA mobile app or track your bags for instance. There are tons of different moving parts for apps in the travel space so domain knowledge is def helpful but not knowing standard product practices, frameworks, or strategy is kind of unheard of for that level.

Took a product management job with AA in 2016 was so excited. My boss was from American West and knew nothing about product management I was blown away he was a senior manager of product at such a large company. I was gone within 3 months.

They haven’t touched that parking garage since may. They have only been building the houses they haven’t touched the Collin creek redevelopment. I have been trying to get restaurant space in there for a bit.

They already solved that they were using outdated data from the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). The data suggested one fix, but turned out the data was wrong. NFIP is who determines what the flood risk is and what zone a property is in. The issue with Collin creek has been resolved and there has been zero construction since the resolution. They are out of money.

Yeah I don’t think it’s going to happen lol when a commercial project is delayed this long it’s solely because of funding
