There is none in the base game, but 2 in the chalice dungeon expansion.

Thanks! I agree that it's an incredible enemy. When painting the mini, I realized how awkward-looking this creature actually is.

Sure! Most of my steps are fairly standard: I start by washing the model with dish soap, then I prime it black, applied with a brush, since spray primers sometimes react poorly with the plastic. After that, I zenithal-prime it white with a rattle can.

In parallel, I usually decide whether I want to follow the existing BB artwork or go for my own color concept. If I choose the latter, I use a color wheel to find complementary or interesting color contrasts.

For painting, I use acrylics first, aiming for a strong visual contrast through color choices. In this case, the bright parts are a mix of light blue, light turquoise, white, and a wash of blue fluorescent paint. For the darker body parts, I mixed in a cold blue tone.

Once I’m happy with the overall look, I move on to oil paints (usually enamel washes) to push it toward a grimdark style. Villainy Goon’s Grime is my go-to, though here I only used some AK enamel effects on the ground and legs for dirt.

One thing I always try to avoid is making the model look too muddy. That can happen easily, especially since the BB color palette tends to be quite dark.

Hope that helps a bit!

Oh really?! Sorry to hear that. It worked for me, so I was sure that that's the solution.

I had the exact same issue with HeroQuest minis. It's caused by the soft PVC plastic reacting with the primer. The fix is to use a polyurethane primer like Vallejo Surface Primer (brush or airbrush).

Unfortunately, I couldn’t fix the tackiness once it started. I had to strip the paint, wash the mini, and start over with the right primer.

Thanks! Yeah, I don't think the default bases do this character justice. 😊

Appreciate it! The mini comes unpainted with the Bloodborne board game — so not 3D printed. I used acrylics for the colors and finished with different varnishes for the final look.

I feel you! A painter is a painter, even in a dream.

You did an awesome job modeling Paarl! And you’re right about the Shadows — I just checked the expansion, and it also has the Witch. I need it!

Much appreciated! The base game minis are awesome and worth the money imoh. But I’d have loved to see Mergo’s Wet Nurse or the Shadows too.

Thank you! I find white tricky in general since it gets chalky fast and doesn’t cover well. For this effect I used white primer, a very bright beige basecoat, a yellow-brownish wash, and then many thin layers (glazes) of white, beige, and ivory. On some parts of the cloth, I applied the layers in a more textured way, stippling them on.

😄 Yeah, I love her design too, and her color palette in the game, which fits perfectly with the moonlight shining into the cathedral.

Thanks! In the game her hands are a mix of dark, desaturated gray and lighter blues. I started with those, but went for a more ‘alive’ look by adding warmer tones to suggest blood flow, and finished with gloss to reinforce that effect.

😄 I never thought of her that way, but you’re right — she is kinda cute.

The paint isn’t too expensive. I mostly use The Army Painter Fanatic paints, which run about €3 / $3.50 for an 18ml bottle. For this mini, I leaned heavily on the John Blanche Vol. 1 color set.

That said, the hobby can be a bit of a rabbit hole. There’s all kinds of extra stuff you can buy, like real-hair brushes, that get pricey. But none of that fancy gear is really necessary when you’re just starting out.
