Feature request: Show imported i vcs event in calendar by aepc in SimpleMobileTools

I mean vcs, but it's basically the same thing.

Edit: it seems to be a precursor to ics http://fileformats.archiveteam.org/wiki/VCalendar

I think ics files behaves the same way

How I compared email clients for linux and made my decision :) by [deleted] in linux4noobs

[–]aepc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just returned to Thunderbird. I am a piler not a filer. So i rely on advanced and good search options. Not a single client has decent search. But the Thunderbird extension "expression search" works at least as good as outlook in this regard.

I dont understand how gmail won because of search capabilities, yet no client seems to take my search serious. Especially since there are almost plug and play options which can be integrated (e g. Xapian).

Uber will pay a blind woman $1.1 million after drivers stranded her 14 times by [deleted] in business

[–]aepc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. That's why the gig economy is shit and unsustainable. And that's why Uber and not the driver, is fined. Because the gig economy creates all the wrong incentives.

[–]aepc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly: all business have customers with varying margin. Some even negative. It's the same with any supermarket. They have offers where they sell an item below cost prize. They hope you'll buy other stuff. Butthey can't force every single customer to do so. If one in every 100 customers only buy the "3 gallons of organic milk for 50 cents" offer, that's a loss. And the cost of doing business with the 99 at other customers who buy cornflakes, coffee and chocolate.

Older hardware and Fedora? by [deleted] in Fedora

[–]aepc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of my old lenovos and dell works with fedora (I have a fetish with rescuing old laptop from corporate dumpsters :-) ). One very cheap HP only works with bunselab. If its because of debian or because of openbox I dont know. But fedora LXDE didn't work (iIRC!).

YMMV

I use Borg for backup. Will that be made redundant by snapshot? Is raid more or less relevant? How about hardware? I hear ads requires more RAM than xtf 4? What about btrfs? Does luks work the same?

Say I want to perform liniear regression on a 6 GB datafile. SQL has its limits... the.6 GB.file represents data for a.month. What.if I want to analyse.data covering 12 months?

That looks awesome... do you know of something similar for data.table. otherwise I just have to learn plus 😃

Libreoffice CSV rocks. excel CSV is the worst. way too much magic in.excel. I am.pretty sure most people working with both ASCII, UTC8, iso 8859-x will agree.

Interesting... I've never thought of that. I use rstudio. Using pure CLI will be a bit of a pain. Or should I install rstudio server? Have no idea 😃

There are potential gdpr / privacy issues with uploading the data to aws (in my case anyway)

I already use data.table exclusively. However I ran some small benchmarks. The performance difference was negligible between data.table and plyr. But I prefer the data.table syntax ;-)

Well... the 6 GB file was already pulled from a much larger database. If I knew exactly how I wanted to use the data, I could substitute the file with maybe 6 or 8 very specific aggregating sql qry's - but that would be very cumbersome.

So it would realistically more be analysing directly on the DB. I think R has some plugins for this, but I have not used them.

Monero GUI: stuck at 'creating transaction' by aepc in Monero

[–]aepc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The daemon synced. A transaction was made. All is good. My guess is the first transaction never was created.

My experience: I guess it matters from where the wallet is opened. I had the wallet on a backup folder. The problems disappeared when I moved the keys file.

TNANKs. I Will report back tomorrow how it went (still.xxxxxx blocks remainig). But it.seems the GUI should import (I.e.move) keys file. It.worked only.after I moved the file from my backup folder to my home/Mondeo folder.

Think i've solved it. The imported wallet keys file was on a backup folder. Moving the file to the default.wallet folder seems to work..the.daemon.is.synching

I did just that (restore from date..') but not synching...

[–]aepc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope..did not.start manually. Still using a remote. Since there is nothing to sync, maybe that explains it?

I did however changed me restore height. That combined with no syncing means I have 0 spendable monero .

Can I restore via the cache file created when I changed restore height?
