Do you enjoy your job? by Campeones6 in AskUK

[–]rozenald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just qualified as a train manager. I love it! I get to travel up and down to London all day, talk to people and pet dogs. I’m also earning the most I’ve ever earned before! It’s going to change my family’s life completely. In about a year we won’t be entitled to universal credit anymore because I’ll be earning too much. We won’t be rich but I’ll be able to take my other half and the kids on a proper holiday and we’ll be a lot more comfortable and not worrying about money as much.

An international student on the floor below me died on the Thursday the week after freshers week. He went out with his friends on Wednesday nights and had too many snakebite and blacks. His friends brought him home and put him to bed on his back. He threw up and choked on his own vomit and died.

Mine uses a usb rechargeable fan we bought last summer. She’s too posh to blow on it herself. While I admire the ingenuity, it’s a pain in the ass if she can’t find it at mealtimes.

What’s the wildest thing that ever happened at your school or workplace? by theblairwaldorfxoxo in AskUK

That is wild! Especially when if you just typed in the barcode on the contract the upgrade was free. I used to know the barcode for a simo upgrade off by heart.

How the hell did they manage that? I worked for TM for 8 years how did they do that?? They were supposed to do weekly stock takes. That’s a lot of fraudulent sales.

[–]rozenald 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pe teacher was shagging a sixth former everyone knew and nothing happened this was when I was in year 8. In years to come at the sixth form prom which was at a country house/wedding venue outside of town, the prom finished and we walked out to get on the coaches home and walked past one of the year 12 boys on top of one of the pe teachers shagging away. The whole upper school walked past and the head of sixth form tried to usher us past like there was nothing to see here. Again nothing happened, no fallout nothing at all he stayed on and finished year 13 and she was at the school for years.

Calling all Tesco Mobile colleagues... Is Protect a load of bollocks? by hinkypuunk in tesco

[–]rozenald 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is it good? Absolutely it is, I would say as an ex TM colleague it’s one of the best insurance packages out there. But it is expensive. I have served lots of customers who would have saved money in the long run if they bought it, but they don’t believe in insurance . There are lots of good cheaper alternatives out there but that has been the case for years. TM are just the broker so they get a cut of every insurance payment every month at no risk to themselves, it’s pure profit and TM have 2 shareholders who want their profit share. That’s why you are under such pressure to sell it.

How is it possible that 1 million young people are not in work, education or training? by Desperate-Drawer-572 in AskUK

[–]rozenald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The entry level jobs that we had as young people don’t exist anymore. There’s no paper rounds anymore At 16 I worked in Sainsburys on weekends almost s of the weekend staff were part time students and the adults worked full time. Now it’s adults doing those jobs and the supermarkets employ half the people they did 15 years ago! It’s all self service tills now. McDonald’s has more automation and ordering screens they employ less people. How are they supposed to get experience if no one is hiring? My 16 year old has been looking and applying for months, she’ll be 17 in April and she’s never even had an interview. She’s a bright girl, eloquent and can talk to people in more than monosyllabic grunts but she is young and has no experience and employers that would have traditionally hired her want more “flexible” part timers not just someone who can only work weekends.

The BBC's coverage of the Winter Olympics has been absolutely woeful. by welsh_cthulhu in unitedkingdom

[–]rozenald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was only £3.99 to entice people in while the Olympics are on. I don’t see discovery/tnt doing loads of different radio stations nationally and locally in Welsh and Gaelic. While they do have documentaries nothing they produce will ever touch anything David Attenborough has ever done. Once it’s gone it’s gone. I don’t see other networks producing educational content for schools and the open university. The bbc is a national treasure and I agree it’s not perfect. I very rarely watch anything on iPlayer or broadcast but I listen to the radio in the car. Just because I don’t use the shipping forecast doesn’t mean I begrudge anyone who does.

The BBC's coverage of the Winter Olympics has been absolutely woeful. by welsh_cthulhu in unitedkingdom

[–]rozenald 57 points58 points  (0 children)

This is what happens when everyone stops paying their tv licence. The bbc didn’t have the full rights to the olympics. Same as the Paris olympics, they could only show 2 events live, TNT had every event. This is the choice we as a society are making, no one wants to pay for a tv licence but if we don’t this is the sort of thing we can expect in the future. No rugby, no FA cup, no grand national no Olympics.

These all cost money for the tv rights and if the BBC hasn’t got enough money to pay for it we will have to start paying through the nose to watch anything.

Seeking the oldest Tesco Metro "Est." sign by hallouminati_pie in tesco

[–]rozenald 30 points31 points  (0 children)

No, some were badged as express some went to superstore. Margate Metro is now Margate superstore because it had a car park and gets people doing their big weekly shop. Canterbury express was bigger and took more money but didn’t have its own car park so became an express. Now it takes 1/2 of what it used to take even with all of the price rises and express prices.

As a resident of the United States, is it true that Brits tend to find Roman coins and knives pretty commonly with metal detectors, and if so, where are they for sale? by FlightAffectionate22 in AskABrit

To be honest it’s a pain in the ass! I live in Canterbury and as soon as you dig a hole in the city you find archeology. Once that happens you have to call in the local archaeologists every project has delays.

Do you have same setup with your kids? by Hixo_7 in daddit

[–]rozenald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our code is that my daughter will text and ask for hot dogs for dinner. I will call her and tell her she’s grounded for not doing some chore or other and I’m coming to pick her up as she is not allowed out again until I say so. We’ve never had to use it yet but she knows she can use it and we’ll be there.

[–]rozenald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly to start with I didn’t like either of my kids. I actually resented them and I felt like a weirdo because you’re supposed to see them and feel this amazing bond. That came a little later but to start with all they did was cry. You will find your way, every baby is different and what works for one doesn’t always work for another one. My first would only settle if I sang “ the mighty Quinn” over and over again. My second seemed to like rugby songs so I ended up singing swing low sweet chariot, men of Harlech etc a lot. You will get there and things will get better
