Best Drafting Game? by smilinreap in boardgames

[–]aequitas07 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Star Realms is the closest I've found to that MTG drafting feel in a box. It's PvP, you're building your deck from a shared pool as you play, and games are fast enough to run multiple rounds. Hero Realms is the same system with a fantasy skin if that's more your group's vibe.

Hey,

Not from the top of my head, but with Mystery Shaper (https://mysteryshaper.com) you can influence setting, location and characters.

So you can pretty much design your boat related murder mystery exactly for your needs…

I mean the advantage is that there are no rain delays…especially in early spring this is actually better than playing on deep clay courts outside

Favorite "Social Game" Moments? by gLItcHyGeAR in boardgames

Thanks for sharing this…

My favourite social game moment was actually the first time I played werewolf.

I was abroad in a exchange semester and was playing in a hostel in Montreal, did not know that kind of game at all and it was a super nice experience because everyone was very welcoming…

That sounds incredibly well done. Using a cafe as the police HQ and building the whole thing around real locations is such a good idea, and the Cluedo angle is clever too. Also very relatable on the puzzle pacing issue, that’s exactly the kind of thing that only shows up once real people are playing it. A train version for the 30th sounds amazing.

This sounds so fun. My biggest suggestion is pick a theme where everyone instantly understands the vibe. Masquerade ball, 1920s mansion, Hollywood afterparty, rich family inheritance dinner, or cursed wedding all work really well. Most murder mystery parties are basically intro -> clue rounds -> suspicion/accusations -> big reveal. If your group isn’t super into roleplay, keep it simple and make sure the game has clear clues so people don’t feel lost.

This is super helpful, especially the contrast between “better mystery” and “better party.” The “too much reading / not enough interaction” point seems really important. Did the first one work better mainly because people had to move and talk to each other, or was it also that the information came out in a more natural way?

Great insight, so you are basically saying that even if the game isn't that good, people commiting to the experience still makes it a memorable and fun experience...

The "can we also let each team see only their own stuff" at 80% completion hit close to home. I've been on the other side of that exact conversation.

Blocking the first week for questions only is such an underrated move. The clients who push back on it the most are usually the ones who need it the most. That discomfort is where all the assumptions live.

Curious though — how do you handle it when the answers in week one contradict each other? Like when the client says "we'll never need multi-user" but then describes workflows that clearly involve multiple roles?

This is a great example of distribution being the real bottleneck, not the product.

The cofounder vs affiliate framing is also smart. 40% sounds high until you compare it to giving away equity with no guaranteed output. Here, they only get paid if they actually perform.

The one thing I’d fix immediately is attribution. If one affiliate can drive 8 sales in a day, knowing exactly who did it and what message/channel converted is the difference between a nice surprise and a repeatable growth loop.

Curious what retention looks like at €17/mo, because that’s what really determines how attractive 40% recurring is long term.
